So happy to have found this place! My husband and I have recently moved to being dairy free and have noticed that it's sometimes just easier to go with a vegan eatery. We were going to be in the area for an appointment so decided we would grab lunch afterwards at Vegan on the Fly.
We were greeted upon entering, and it took quite a few minutes to figure out what we were going to have, despite having looked at the menu previously- we were hungry and everything sounded good! At no point did the staff have any issue or place any pressure on us, they were very chill, which I appreciate immensely.
I ordered an impossible chopped cheese with fries; my husband got a falafel platter. It didn't take long at all for the food to be prepared, and it was brought out to us in their small dine in area. There aren't a lot of seats (under 10) but it's a nice space to have and there was a really cute set up on one of the walls that was completely unexpected. I'm not exaggerating when I say the falafel is the best we have ever had, it was so good, not dry at all, the right consistency, just perfection. The veggies in the platter were fresh, the rice was cooked just right, we couldn't have asked for any better. The falafel platter is definitely a show stopper, and I would highly recommend it. The impossible chopped cheese was good- I probably wouldn't order it again. The portions of everything in it were good, nothing overpowered anything else and all the ingredients worked well together. The fries reminded us of the McDonald's fries from WAY back in the day, so it was a bit of a nostalgia treat, and that was fun.
Be aware that there is no public restroom here- If you order something like the chopped cheese, you will get messy. I always have wet wipes and hand sanitizer with me, so it was no issue.
I will say the space overall could use more attention to detail when cleaning. We arrived at just after 11AM, which is when they opened for the day, and I noticed a lot of dirt/grime/old food on walls, in corners, etc. so it probably isn't the highest priority here. I hope to see that improve.
Prices were about what I would expect, although I do think the impossible chopped cheese wasn't worth the $17.99 price point.
Overall, I'm very happy with our experience here and will be returning in the future to try...
Read moreHeart Break.........💔 This is a letter to the love of my life. I fell in love with you when I first tasted your delicious platter. Your gyro was out of this world! Your drumsticks were mouth watering. Even though your seating is more limited than a Toyota Yaris I continued to return. Then one day I ordered a platter and when I tasted it, the "meat" had an extremely spicy flavor. I couldn't go on eating it and had to dump about $40 worth of food. I took a few months off from your love.....but I had to return. I couldn't control my lust for you.
Sadly after returning all I could ask myself was: "Why did I return?" I came back for your flavorful halal style platter.......you're soft juicy gyro..... But yet again I was heart broken. Deceived by your instagram pictures, your beautiful aroma, and my own hunger. I thought I was getting a meal and instead received a snack. In the picture below you can see that the pita bread (usually should be outside of the actual plate) was inside, taking space of the extra rice and extra meat that I ordered...... Why did you deceive me again......Your taste is out of this world with a 5/5 rating. Yet your unpredictable behavior is what we drives me out of your presence.
I know you love me for my Benjamins.......but I wont be returning. I will practice self control. I'm not coming back baby. I won't be looking at your beautiful instagram pictures just so that I can be fooled once again. I have to return back home. Back to my kitchen food.......Bye bye forever Vegan on the Fly.....Just know I didn't leave because of me......this one...
Read moreExcellent food. Stopped by last night when I was in the area but it was late and they had just closed their dining room. I needed to sit, cool down, rest, and have a nice meal after a long day in the city. We ended up eating across the street.
However, I was determined to eat Vegan On the Fly while in town. I wasn't close today and decided to have it delivered to my hotel this evening. I tried to order directly from them but the delivery fees were pretty high. I ordered through Uber Eats and it was about $13 less expensive.
I got the falafel gyro with "double meat" and a side of fries. It was pretty pricey but that's how it is around here. The gyro was outstanding, some of the best falafel I've had. It had a little bit of kick to it but my spice tolerance is low. I really enjoyed the sandwich.
The fries were getting a little soggy because of the container and delivery but that's unavoidable, no fault of VOTF. Actually the fries were still quite hot by the time they got to me. They were heavy on the salt which I would have rather had less of. I tried to even it out with all the ketchup they gave me.
Definitely order the sauce on the side if having delivered. The "double meat" was a good deal for just a couple bucks more. My Uber Eats guy was super friendly and delivered my food quickly.
EDIT: So I ordered it again and got the grilled onions and ketchup/mayo for the fries and they were so much better! Get the $1 addon with the...
