I happened to be in the Bronx, and I wanted someplace where I could sit and eat. I was aiming away from Latino food, but Munchies also serves Latino food. However, they also serve other things, such as burgers. I chose a burger and fries combo with a medium-sized cherry juice.
The burger and fries were nothing special but good. The fries were crispy. There was only one container of ketchup available, but that was probably sufficient since there are only about five seats total. It isn't a restaurant in the typical sense of sit-down.
The burger was very messy towards the end, so I ended up with a crescent moon's worth of bread that I couldn't eat because there was no more meat. There's no bathroom, so I used drinking water over the trash to rinse my hands from the sauces from the burger. The cherry juice wasn't a color I thought it would be, but it was tasty. I can't say if it was cherry or not, because I'm not quite sure what cherry is supposed to taste like in juice form.
Munchies is very small - very mom and pop. The cooking area is rather small, so it did take some time for the food to come out, even though there was only one person in front of me. That's probably a good thing, because at least I know it's fresh. The kitchen could definitely use a thorough cleaning to remove all of the grease from the stainless steel.
Overall, it's an okay spot if you're in a pinch and don't want to eat Popeye's or Burger King. When I noticed that it was definitely still a predominantly Latino food restaurant, I thought of leaving because I was not in the mood for Latino food. However, in that area, there really isn't much else, so this was my best option. Would I go again? I wouldn't intentionally choose to, but if I was in the area again and needed to eat non-Latino food, it might still be the best spot for me. If I wanted Latino food, there are a bunch of other restaurants in the area that I would choose first.
FYI - very helpful to know...
Read moreI ordered 4 different dishes to try. The first one I opened was the Salchipapa and it was very misleading, it was advertised as the meat being sausage and it turned out to be hotdog. It was also lacking in flavor. The second order I opened was the Yaroa, I had high expectations for this one seeing as it was the most popular that was being sold, and it was lacking in flavor as well, and it was nothing like the Yaroa I had when I was in the Dominican Republic. The third one that I opened was the Cachapa, yet another disappointment seeing as it didn't have any flavor as well. The fourth one I opened was the chimi burger, I even ordered it in beef seeing as that was the most popular being sold. I was highly disappointed yet again this time not because of the flavor issue although I have had better tasting chimi burgers elsewhere, but because there was too much bread and not enough meat, I had taken a full bite and all I had was bread and hadn't even touched the meat part. The strawberry, banana and blueberry smoothie and the chinola juice was the only bright side to this order. I suggest if you have not yet tried Latino fast food to try it somewhere else, as for me I will be continuing my long...
Read moreFood tasted really good. However I called over the phone and they were pretty busy. The lady got nasty with me and rushed me when I turned to ask my bf if he wanted something to drink. When I got to the place i asked for my order and the cashier/manager said it wasn’t ready but he didn’t ask anyone if they were making it. Since they were all scrambling in the back. I asked another lady and she said she would look for it. And when I finally matched the voice to the lady in there, I asked if she was the one I spoke with abs had to wait another 15 minutes because at this point I was the only one waiting for food. The spot had emptied out by the time I was able to see which was the lady I spoke to. They definitely need a new system in there because if that had been anyone else with a shorter temper or less patience and that place would’ve been lit up. Good food. Bad customer service. I also had a cherry juice and it...
