This is a "nice super market", when you put it in context of the local "food desert" on this end (or corner) of East Tremont Ave and being "in the Bronx", and in the 'Tremont neighborhood'. The current biz, or chain, or owners replaced the first grocery in the "Tremont Renaissance Building", a new "corporate welfare" hi-rise. (This last comment is about the building, not the residents! Grocery store is on street level of hi-rise built by gentrification development company that included ex-Community Board 6 member, plus outside investors who bought up 1/2 the block, set the few previous buildings on fire, claimed it was set by homeless people, but if you lived here like I do you knew that was a lie, then built the largest building in Tremont section of the Bronx/ I'm not judging my neighbors, who live on 2nd floor and up, above grocery store.). The original store was trashed and looted a few summers ago, then they sold out and split. The nearest other "supermarket" is +/- 5 blocks away (Western Beef). Before THIS, no grocery within walking distance, just bodegas. The security definitely treat African-Americans different from myself (white, speak English, Spanish & Italian) or Spanish speaking customers. Security attacked my friend who is black, disabled, in his wheel chair and using their handicap ramp. Claimed he shop lifted, but he had a receipt for everything he had. No apology from store! I'm white and security just waves me off when I try to show my receipt as I leave, then lately they said "don't bother cuz we know you are ok". IF YOU LIKE BIRDS while you shop, this place is for you! There's a bunch of sparrows that LIVE INSIDE STORE & fly around there. There's so many birds, sometimes you have to speak louder to be heard. The ’deli counter' makes custom made tossed salad, deli sandwiches and has...
Read moreThe manager Diana does not honor the sales that are in the weekly circular. She is totally disrespectful and has a dismissive attitude when she is shown the sale price in the weekly circular. She refused to give me the sale price on the borden cheese that was listed in the weekly circular. It was on sale for 2/$5 but she kept insisting that an old sign that said that the Borden cheese was $3.99 overrode the current sale in the weekly circular. Indeed, Diana's unprofessional behavior was totally unacceptable and she is deliberately causing the customers irreparable harm by her willful refusal to acknowlede the sales in the weekly circular. She needs to be demoted and fired...
Read moreLove this particular supermarket. They always have everything I need at affordable prices. This store is super clean and organized which I Love. When I don't have time to make sofrito which is mostly every latino's base for cooking most dishes I would have to buy store bought sofrito and every latino knows it's Not the same taste, however I this market I found a sofrito(not from Goya) called Doña Yiya in the produce section. Let me tell you this is as close to homemade sofrito as you will get from a jar. Love it!...
