There's a Vietnamese restaurant that has become a staple in my dining routine, whether for a quick takeout or a sit-down meal. This eatery exudes a warmth and authenticity that's as inviting as the food it serves.
Their brisket banh mi is a standout, perfectly balancing the richness of the meat with the fresh, crisp vegetables and soft, yet crusty bread. It's a dish that I find myself craving often, a testament to its deliciousness.
However, there's a culinary wish I harbor each time I visit. Given Vietnam's history of French colonization and the resultant fusion in its cuisine, I can't help but feel that the addition of French fries to the menu would complement their already amazing offerings. Imagine dipping crispy, golden fries into their flavorful pho or enjoying them alongside a banh mi – it seems like a missed opportunity to further celebrate this cultural culinary blend.
The kindness of the staff adds to the overall experience. Each visit is met with genuine smiles and an eagerness to please, making me feel more like a guest than a customer. This level of service, combined with the food's authenticity, makes each visit memorable.
In summary, this Vietnamese restaurant offers more than just a meal; it offers an experience steeped in cultural richness and genuine hospitality. While I hold out hope for the addition of fries to their menu, the current offerings are more than enough reason to keep coming back. It's a little piece of Vietnam right here in the city, and it's absolutely...
Read moreLucy's has improved SO much since opening! I remember going here in 2022 (shortly after it opened) ordering pho and receiving it in a brown paper bowl lined with wax. It didn't have enough soup, presumably because the bowl would fall apart, and that Lucy's layer of fried mushrooms and aromatics took up too much space at the bottom of the bowl. I left disappointed.
So I'm glad to report that when I order pho, it now comes in an actual dish, and has great ratios. Lucy's gets everything right nowadays! Their tables are stocked with Sriracha, their own variety of hot sauce, and hoisin. They also make so many amazing vegan dishes-- half of their menu is vegan nowadays, and even though I eat meat, I come to Lucy's craving the vegan ginger chick'n! It has an amazing texture and is so very satisfying.
Speaking of which: I ordered that on a bahn mi today, and it was INCREDIBLE. The best sandwich I remember eating this summer, likely even this year. On it: Veganaise, which is delicious and preferable to egg-based mayo, yummy pickled carrots, cilantro, cucumbers, jalapenos, and bean sprouts (my favorite)! Alongside a big helping of the vegan ginger chick'n, which again, has an amazing mouth feel and flavor.
We're lucky that Lucy's is the Vietnamese fast casual chain that caught on in Brooklyn. I...
Read moreAbsolutely not. We were denied the right to eat here because we were with a service dog. The person at the front sold us food. Then when served our food said we cannot eat inside with a dog. We told him this is a service dog. And then he asked for paperwork. Business' cannot require nor request paperwork however we confirmed a second time that this is a service dog who also flies on planes and that you as a business cannot require paperwork.
A co-worker showed us 311s policy around service dogs which confirmed our statements and we responded with 'you are correct, businesses cannot require paperwork for service dogs.'
Per 311: Service Dogs
"Businesses open to the public may not demand any proof of disability or certification of the animal to allow a person to access the business with their service animal."
Even with this, the person at the front counter - mind you the rest of the staff were sympathetic to us - he told us to get out.
Lucy's Vietnamese discriminates against people with disabilities and is not a safe place.
Further, my partner with the service dog is pregnant and the refusal of food for them put them in a high stress, low blood sugar situation, which is not healthy for the pregnant person or baby. Today was particularly cold...
