Madame George — Restaurant in New York

We were visiting from out of town and were thrilled when Sean kindly accommodated our group of seven without a reservation. The atmosphere was amazing, the drinks were great, and the private room made our evening feel special. Everything was going perfectly—until our experience was soured by our waitress, Teddy.

Toward the end of the evening, Teddy’s behavior became intentionally rude. After giving us our bill, we noticed a $70 item that we hadn’t ordered. While she removed it after we pointed it out, things went downhill from there. She abruptly grabbed a drink out of one of our guest’s hands, saying, “I’ll be taking that.” This was uncalled for, as no one in our group was overly intoxicated or behaving poorly.

What made the situation worse was what happened after we paid our bill. While I was standing at the bar waiting for change, I overheard Teddy talking negatively about our group to other staff. She accused us of bringing our own alcohol into the restaurant, which was completely untrue. We had drinks from our limo and one guest didn’t want to leave empty cans behind in the vehicle, so he placed the 2 cans on the table before we left. While that may not have been ideal, it was certainly not an attempt to bring outside alcohol into the restaurant.

When I tried to clarify the situation with Teddy, she dismissed me with a condescending smile and said, “You’re fine,” before walking away with another patronizing comment: “I’m glad everyone had a great time.” This interaction left me feeling disrespected and embarrassed, especially since our group was polite, friendly, and appreciative throughout the evening.

It’s such a shame because Sean and the rest of the staff provided excellent service, and the atmosphere was incredible. Unfortunately, this experience with Teddy ruined the night for us. While we had initially planned to return next year, this interaction has left us hesitant to revisit.

I hope management takes this feedback seriously to ensure other guests don’t face...

A hidden gem in midtown with vibes that hit just right!! This is one of the topnotch cocktail bars I have been to in NYC!

What really sets Madame George apart is the incredibly striking ambience. The lighting inside is low and warm, with plush velvet seating, candlelit tables, and vintage feels that make you feel like you have stepped into an entirely different era. Add to that the live music and the place is an atmospheric delight! Their cocktails are downright delicious! Every drink is crafted with intention and a touch of flair. Which is paired with a delectable menu that goes way beyond—i loved their raw oyster tower. Their chicken and shrimp appetizers were such flavor-bombs as well!!

The low for me was the service. Which was quite slow. Whether it’s getting your first drink or waiting on a follow-up order, the bar staff and servers seem overwhelmed and busy. It’s not for lack of friendliness but it feels like the pace isn’t keeping up with the place’s charm.
