I'll drive all the way from South Jamaica to Forest Hills for takeout.
My mother and I went for lunch and had some apps and 2 lunch specials. We opted for the Curry Puffs (one of our go-to's) and the Chicken Satay. The curry puffs are light and extremely flavorful, and the chicken satay grilled to perfection! Both come with interesting dipping sauces, including a peanut sauce for the satay.
The lunch specials are $9+ and come with soup, salad, or soda. Add $3 for specialty proteins like beef, shrimp, squid, etc. We got the Basil Fried Rice with chicken and Drunken Noodle with shrimp. My mom opted for the soda, and I got the soup (they couldve kept it). I also HAD to have a Thai Iced Tea, which was amazing! Everything was extremely fresh and well seasoned. Stay away from these dishes if you can't take spicy foods! It gives a heat that can clear your sinuses, but I LOVE spice, so it was great for me (my mother sniffled through her meal)! I also grabbed a Mango Sticky Rice to-go, and I should've eaten one there and took another for the road!
Everything was about $50, and we were sooo full when we left and had enough to share with my son and for myself to have seconds for dinner.
HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! I actually spent a birthday here over 10 years ago, and the food...
Read moreWent to this place on my lunch break at around 12:30p.m. The first red flag was that the place was empty, being that one of my colleagues recommend the place, I didn't say anything. The 2nd red flag was that no one was as the entrance to greet us, or seat us. When the waiter finally came over to our table (we were sitting down for at least 15 minutes before the waiter came to our table) the waiter just threw down the menus & walked away. I ordered the chicken & pineapple fried rice (recommended by a colleague) & the chicken satay as an appetizer. We sat down for at least 30 minutes waiting on our food to come out..Did I tell you that we were the only guests in the place? When our food came out I was very disappointed. I was hungry, because I skipped breakfast, & when I usually do this, every taste good, but that wasn't the case this time. My children satay was lukewarm & dry. It taste it was made the previous day & reheated. My chicken & pineapple rice was flavorless. I had to ask for some sweet chili sauce in order for me to consume it. I really don't know what was going on in this place, but if I didn't already know how decent thai food tasted, I would have been traumatized. I actually love thai food, but this place gives thai food a...
Read moreLocated a few blocks outside of the popular Austin Street area of Forest Hills, you can find this quiet Thai restaurant. Once inside, the greeted by an appropriately ethnic decor but the lighting is so dim, I'm not sure how patrons can see their food.
We went on a weekend to pick up dinner and the place was empty. Still it took a while for our food to come out. We ordered the pad thai, mango beef, tom yum soup and fried chicken wings. The pad thai portion was small and the noodles a bit on the sticky side. There were many clumps. The mango beef had a bit of spice and the beef very tender. The only issue was the mango being on the unripe side, very tangy and hard. The tom yum soup flavors were spot on and had a good amount of heartiness. The wings were the best of the bunch. They had a nice crisp, well seasoned and not oily at all.
By far, this is not close to one of the great Thai restaurant in NYC but if you're in the area and want to avoid the bustle of Austin Street, there are things to like about this place. Just give your eyes some time to adjust before you start bringing forks and knives close...
