So me my girlfriend and some friends went October 20th last night.. wait time not bad only 30 min. A party of 6. We were called the for our table they gave us the table number one on the left as you enter. this table was very narrow none of us sat there very comfortable. And an ATM machine right at the end of the table that was awkward. Didn’t like that. Our server I have to say did attend to us rather quickly. Cool dude. When they brought us water none of the glasses had I sent it the water was at room temperature and they forgot one of our friends so she didn’t get a glass of water till we asked for it. The food !! I have to say my meal was good minus the rice my steak I give a 10 the rice I give a zero had no flavor whatsoever. My girlfriends dinner plates eight pieces of some type of sushi I give that about a five. They play music which is cool but way way too loud we all found ourselves yelling at each other just to speak. One of our friends ended up with a headache. Lol. Now The table and the seating that we had felt more like we were sitting at a bar so three of us had our backs towards everyone else the waiters tend to stand right behind you damn near leaning on your back that was a bit uncomfortable. A little unprofessionalism I did see one of the waiters counting out perhaps his tip or accounting someone’s money in the middle of the dining room while dancing I found that a bit weird and unprofessional. When our dinner was brought to us they immediately gave us chopsticks which is cool but we had to ask for silverware and also they forgot to bring one of our friends their silverware. And some of it was in complete me and my girlfriend had to share a steak knife awww how sweet. Lol. Now it is a hookah joint but I think they need to separate areas for non-smokers hookah people on one side and non-smokers another. I did almost feel like I was smoking hookah all night long. Which doesn’t bother me too much but my girlfriend doesn’t smoke at all. So a non-smoking section would be good. And this The prices for everything a rather high , I did notice they included their own gratuity now check this out so keep your eye on your change because when I went to pay I wasn’t given my chain ( .75) I was returned the dollar bills of the change but my quarters dimes and nickels he never gave back so if they do this to everyone that goes there they’re getting off big time. I didn’t say anything about it because were only talking about a few quarters dimes and nickels no big deal but the fact of the matter is you are supposed to return every piece of change. But maybe their mentality is who complains about a few quarters dimes and nickels right 😒. Over all the food “most of it “ was really good. Music wayyyyy too loude. Way too much smoke blowing around and they all Black attention to detail. So would I go back yeah but only if I’m in the area it’s summertime and around lunchtime. I wouldn’t make a dinner plan only because the seating is very uncomfortable it’s too loud inside and the prices are just too high I would not mind sitting outside for a quick bite that’s about it. So if your ready to spend $100 for just 2 people One alcoholic beverage to dinner plate go for it and also if you like extremely loud music constantly and don’t mind a seat you can not sit back on. If...
Read moreAMBIANCE: My friend and I came here on a Sunday afternoon to head a bite to eat. We weren’t trying to do brunch or anything but we should’ve known better because this place was brunch vibes all around. It was pretty loud and obnoxious in there. Again, we weren’t doing an all out brunch but I guess if we were we would’ve been ok with the day-party.
DRINK: We both ordered one mojito because honestly, $14 for a mojito is ridiculous. Although we thought it was overpriced, once they came and we tasted them we knew why. The drinks were pretty strong and large so I guess we got our money’s worth. It was delicious.
FOOD: We ordered a side of yuca fries which was DELICIOUS! They were so addicting and they brought so many! Omg they were so good. I ordered the Campesino roll. I’ve been waiting to try this for years because I’m from FL so we don’t have anything like this back home. I also don’t eat regular sushi so Dominican sushi is right up my alley. I will say that I wish this was a little warm, I know sushi is served cold but since everything is cooked in this roll I would’ve have liked it to be warm. I also could taste a faint fishy taste in my rice. It wasn’t horrible to the point where I couldn’t eat it, but I would appreciate it if my rice didn’t smell like fish when I’m trying to eat my salami y queso.
SERVICE: We had a large party next to us with which we shared our waitress with. Our waitress was very lively with them and would sing the songs with them when they started singing and whatnot. I thought that was fun because she kept that pumped up energy that they were giving off. I did notice at one point she brought the table some drinks and they were not very satisfied with them so they wanted to send them back to the bar. The waitress asked what was wrong and then I saw her point to the glass as if she’s asking to taste it to verify. She sipped some of the drink and proceeded to take them back to the bar. I found this to be unprofessional as you should not openly take a sip of an alcoholic drink from a guest. Also, she is not a bartender, only the bartender should taste their drink to verify if it is correct or not. And even then, they usually take a small sample using the suction of a straw, not drinking from the glass itself. I just didn’t like that.
Overall this place is cool if you’re trying to go out and have a little party with your friends, definitely not a place to just grab a quick bite because it’s always a party in there. I would go again but with a larger group of ppl and...

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐
Yesterday evening, I enjoyed dining at Mama Sushi at 74 Dyckman Street in upper Manhattan. This delightful eatery boasts three unique dining spaces to cater to your ambiance preference – a cozy indoor area, a curbside space, and an innovative designated fenced area across the street. Since the weather was on my side, I settled comfortably in the latter, an arrangement showcasing Mama Sushi's creativity in urban space.
As the DJ effortlessly spun a selection of Latin tunes, my senses were entertained and enticed by their kitchen's exotic aroma. The well-chosen music and excellent audio quality added an extra layer of enjoyment to my dining experience, merging seamlessly with the restaurant's lively vibe.
Having had my fill of raw sushi in the past, I sought a different culinary adventure. The courteous and accommodating host pointed me towards their house sushi roll called 237 Dyckman - a delectable blend of Shrimp Tempura, Sweet Plantain, Avocado, and Cream Cheese, all coated in a sublime Eel Sauce and deep-fried to perfection. The sushi roll came with the usual sushi accompaniments and was generously portioned, adding value to the dining experience.
Although the wait was slightly longer than usual, it was understandable, given the bustling weekend crowd and the delightful weather. While the preparation and presentation were impressive, I still preferred the raw sushi variety.
The staff at Mama Sushi deserves a special mention. Despite the language barrier, some team members were not fluent in English, so they provided impeccable service. This place reflects the surrounding neighborhood, with Spanish as a common language.
One glance at their extensive menu shows that this restaurant is not just about sushi. Their vast offerings ensure I'll be back to embark on a new gastronomic journey. And the cherry on top? The roll dish and my soda cost were reasonable, promising quality food without breaking the bank.
Overall, my experience at Mama Sushi was overwhelmingly positive. It's an enchanting blend of delicious, inventive food, refreshing music, a unique ambiance, and welcoming staff. A gem in Manhattan that I'd highly recommend to locals and tourists alike.
Looking forward to my next visit,...
