Max's Es-ca — Restaurant in New York

Our first time in this restaurant and what a horrible experience! We came to this restaurant for a birthday celebration with a party of 8. When we were given a table, the server, whose name is Patricio did not acknowledge us. We sat down and had to wait 30 minutes for the server to take our drink orders, another 30 minutes just for the appetizer orders and 30 minutes later the server finally took our entree orders. We waited for our entrees for over an hour. The restaurant was not busy, therefore there is no reason why we waited so long for service. We took it amongst ourselves to go to the bar since our waiter disappeared on us. A small group of four people walked in after us and was served and left the restaurant before we received our main course. Eventually we received a high bill which was expected. The bill was paid for in full with no problem and even tipped the absent waiter a decent amount, despite the poor service we received. At the end of the night, Patricio (our waiter) made a huge scene and requested a higher tip. We explained that he was avoiding us the entire night, but he continued to insist on a higher tip. We have never experienced such a lack of professionalism in any food establishment. We made a complaint to the manager on duty, Johnny, and nothing was resolved. As per the manager, he continued to make excuses as to why we received the poor service on a slow night. No action was taken against the waiter for the scene he caused. Amazing food and great attentive service!

We visited Max's Es-ca in Aug 2022 to celebrate a family event. We were absolutely impressed by the quality of food and service! Every dish we tried was delicious and was served exactly as ordered and at the right time. The place is quite expensive but it is certainly worth it!

Appetizers: Tuna Tartare - it was so perfect that we finished it in no time and ordered one more. Burrata Mozzarella - soft and delicious. Fried Calamari - good as it's supposed to be. Mesclun Salad - such a great combo of greens, goat cheese, walnuts, and other ingredients that we ordered a second one.

Mains: Beef Wellington - few of us ordered it and we all loved it! Soft, tender, perfectly cooked to order beef in a fresh fluffy pastry, complimented with a bed of extra smooth mashed potatoes and some creamy sauce underneath! Yummy! It was just hands down delicious and the best dish of the night!

Rack of Lamb - the meat was so tender that it was melting in the mouth! Though no doubt the dish was overall delicious I would however suggest adding a bit more color with some spices or herbs. Also, the breadcrumbs crust had a very subtle oily taste note which it would be better without.

Montreal Crusted NY Strip Steak - the steak was juicy and cooked exactly as ordered. My son gave it 5 stars :)

Desserts: Pecan pie, Tiramisu, Fried Ice Cream - all great and delicious.

I hosted a surprise birthday party for my sister yesterday evening in the pavilion and I was truly blown away by the service!! Ahead of the event, Alison was quick to respond to my outreach and extremely kind. She made planning the party the least stressful in every way. Once we arrived to decorate and set up, all the staff were so welcoming and frequently checked in on us to see if we needed a drink or any help; even Max personally checked up on us. Our tables were set up before we got there, we were allowed in the space 2.5 hours early to decorate, they immediately offered to keep our cake in the fridge, and they crafted customized menus ahead of time for our guests based on our food selection (and the food was delicious, of course!) We had plenty of space for so many decorations and enough tables for our needs (see photos). Most importantly, the service provided by Angel was incredible. I was so thankful that he made the day special for us. He checked in with me throughout the night, made the guests laugh, ensured everyone’s drinks were filled, and even brought out a lovely sparkler and candle for the cake since we didn’t have one. At the end of the night, we had so many balloons to pop and decorations to clean - once we started taking everything down, Angel told us not to worry about anything.
