the food is way overpriced for the portions. i also see what others have mentioned in their reviews about the waiter trying to push customers to order something else other than what they asked for. it was my first time at this venue, i tried to play it safe with the tikka masala but IMMEDIATELY the waiter said “No you want something spicy i will put an order for (something else— i wasn’t listening)” i said no thanks i’ll take the tikka masala and he grumbled something before waiting for my friend to order. after she ordered i flagged him down to change my order before he punched it in— Chicken Briyani ($22) he had no problem with that— they’re really just trying to push you to spend more money. the total bill for our lunch came out to about $90.. for one order of samosas, one ginger ale, one mango lassi, one garlic naan, one chicken briyani and one chicken curry. NINETY DOLLARS. the food was passable but it was definitely not worth $90. the garlic naan was a poor excuse for garlic naan. their usual crowd here seems to consist of wall street/finance bros— which explains much. you can definitely find better quality indian cuisine somewhere else for significantly cheaper.

I live in the neighborhood and have wanted to try this place since they took over from the previous owners. What a disappointing experience, from the service to the food - it was almost all bad, and I mean really bad! The Naan bread was thin and overcooked and tasted like an unsalted cracker. The chicken tika masala tasted like it was made with chef Boyardee, and that's being generous. The Tandoori chicken was dry and flavorless, although it presented well. We felt as if we were a bother to the server staff just by being there. The rice was ok, but then again, how do you screw up rice. The only really remarkable dish was the ginger chicken kabab appetizer. WOW - full of flavor, too bad it came out with the main course. We asked for it first but they just wanted to get rid of us so they brought it out with the main dishes and gave some excuse about cooking times. Everything looked good but tasted horrible. Bottom line - Go somewhere else if you want even mediocre Indian food. The service and food quality just isn't up to par.

My wife kid and I just had the lunch in this restaurant. The food is pretty disgusting and chicken was atleast 3 days old. The dal makhani was spicy and had nothing close to a daal makhani you would think. Now me and wife both feel pretty sick. My kid kept waiting for the only thing (fries) she could eat here. They had no sensitivity and courtesy to respect that a kid is without food while parents are somehow try to push the inedible food down their throat. I asked like 4 times until we eventually left and changed the fries to go. I never had such a bad experience in a dine in place in NYC. Please come at your own risk as this place is really bad. It’s not just an opinion it’s what me and my family were subjected to. As you can see I don’t bother even paying a single $ in tip which is against my rule to pay a minimum of 15% for a service. Neither the food nor the service is worth your time in this place.

Extremely Disappointing Experience at Mughlai Indian Cuisine — Would Give Zero Stars If I Could

We chose Mughlai Indian Cuisine based on good reviews and its convenient location during our drive from Albany to Newark Airport, where we were dropping our parents for a long international flight. What we hoped would be a comforting lunch turned into a frustrating and embarrassing experience.

Before we even entered, a man — who seemed to be the host/server — rudely asked “How many are you?” with no greeting or courtesy, and told us to wait outside. Meanwhile, other groups were let in and seated before us. It felt like we were being singled out and made to feel unwelcome.

We were eventually seated (four adults and one child) at a table next to the toilet, even though other tables were open. Still, we chose to stay, hoping the food would be worth it. Unfortunately, it wasn’t.

We had to ask twice just for water. When we started to place our order, the same server snapped, “You need to place your full order now — we have reservations and can’t bring food one by one.” That’s not how hospitality works, especially when serving a family with a child and elderly parents.

The South Indian food advertised outside was “not available.” We requested bottled water and were met with surprise, as if the server didn’t expect us to spend money. The food that arrived was overpriced, the rice tasted old, and the dishes had more artificial color than a Rangoli — style over substance.

We spent over $100 and left feeling disrespected and disappointed. For a restaurant that charges premium prices, Mughlai Indian Cuisine seriously lacks basic courtesy and service. Management needs to prioritize hospitality over rushing customers out the door.

I don’t usually write reviews, but this experience was unacceptable. I would not recommend this place to anyone. If I could give zero...

Here’s the thing the food is quite good, but the main server was relentless. I came in, sat for lunch, but then he moved me to another table after I was settled. I promised I’d only be there for a a short time, but in spite of being handicapped he moved me after directly seating me.

Then I said “is lunch still on” as it was 3pm, he said yes, but then his boss said no. So he made a huge point that he had got me a lunch special even though it was advertised until 4pm and we were well before that.

Then He kept bringing it up. He said this was a favor, etc, fine whatever, but enough I just wanted a bit of food without patting one’s self repeatedly on their on back. Great we got lunch but it was annoying he needed to make sure I understood that he made some special allowances for me, when I would have been fine either way.

Then he made me pack up my own leftovers which is ok, but he just would not stop asking me questions. Are you ok, do you need this, do you need that.,,

I’m not 5 if you make me pack I will pack.

I feel like he needed so much handholding and time I just wanted to get out of there. It could have been fast, but it was well over a hour/ for water and food.

Anyhow do your food people - And lose the nervous dude.

I tipped him above 20% and he kept staring at the bill in front of me, doing the math in front of me, seeming unhappy after being super annoying and chattering to himself about the tip.

Get that guy...

BEWARE this restaurant. We had ordered delivery from here and they almost killed my boyfriend. On Uber eats there was no mention of nuts in the 3 dishes we ordered. In addition to checking the menu, we also called the restaurant to confirm that there were no nuts in the dishes. They kept repeating that nuts were not present and that we would be fine.

The food arrived and within an hour my boyfriend was having an allergic reaction. He was rushed to the hospital with swelling of his face and the swelling began effecting his breathing. After 8 hrs in the hospital we finally went home.

We then went to the restaurant to let them know what happened so that they could protect future customers but they were nothing but cold and cruel. No empathy for what had happened. When we asked if they could just pay for the medical bill and they basically laughed in our face. Luckily we saved the food in our freezer to prove the presence of nuts and we will now be taking them to small claims court to pay for the hospital bill.

There are many better Indian restaurants in the city who will not put your life at risk. Besides the rude customer service and the negligence the food was not very good anyway. I would recommend eating at any another restaurant where they actually care about...
