Penny House Cafe made our experience here amazing. They treated us with open arms and recommended a few options to try, not overselling, but caring and loving what they do. Our soft hot bagel breakfast sandwiches were delicious. Coffee was on point, and we are glad we made this trip to come try them out. The lemon olive cake, blue berry muffin, and chocolate croissant uffffff no words needed. Thanks to the 2 of you, we wanted to go back, but time didn't permit. Hopefully, we'll be back soon. Keep up the amazing customer service, many places need to learn from the 2 of you.

I visited NYC recently and stayed in Brooklyn. This place was nearby and I came for some breakfast. Very cool little place. Chilled-out vibe, and the gentleman that helped me was super friendly. The entire menu looked great, but I decided on the Ghost Pepper Beef Sausage breakfast bagel and an iced mocha. Very tasty breakfast, not too spicy. The iced mocha was a little too sweet for me, but still better iced coffee compared to a couple of other places nearby (i.e.: Grabstein's Bagels, Hungry Ghost)

Awesome staff, great quality drinks, totally reasonable prices, fast service, nice atmosphere. Couldn’t ask for more from a coffee establishment. I’ve never tried food menu items but have only heard good things from others. This spot is more than worth a try if you’re in the neighborhood 👍 Edit: went back and the club sandwhich was amazing, fast and fresh, will return.

DO NOT COME HERE if you value your money, your time, and the honesty / kindness of others. I waited almost one hour for two chicken wraps. After 25 minutes, I saw the chef pick up a paper bag with our order on it and ask "is this order still open?".

Then, the person running the register (I believe his name is Avi), turned to me and made a joke "it will just be three more days haha!" without knowing I saw this. He then proceeded to lie, saying my order takes so long because I ordered chicken. After 45 minutes, I went inside to ask again very nicely how long it will be, and he again lied and said chicken takes a long time to cook.

At approximately one hour, he came outside and instead of saying my name he said "45 minutes!" and handed me the order. I walked to the park, opened the bag, and the order was not even right. There was no cheese on the sandwiches, I ordered avocado on both and there was none on either. I also ordered one sandwhich and one wrap, because my girlfriend is sensitive to gluten and wraps are easier on her stomach. But he gave me two sandwhiches, not one sandwhich one wrap.

I called the restaurant, explained the situation very nicely and understandingly, and was offered a full refund to which I accepted and provided my card number.

After 9 days, I have not gotten a refund, so I just called back. Avi picked up the phone, remembered our order exactly, and said he will actually not give us a refund. After a frustrating argument, he said he "Does not have ability to give me a refund, I have to call the manager" but the manager is not there. And will not be returning until next week. yeah right.

Absolutely disgusting customer service, I tipped 25% and was entirely respectful but in return was treated with fully...

With 3 coffee joints within 100 yards of one another, Penny House sits alone at the summit of superior coffee/ cafe service on Washington Ave. In addition to the vast coffee selection, PH also has an extensive list of edibles to accompany your cup of joe. The BLT is just dreamy; there's no other word for it - but don't just take it from me - try it yourself.

The cafe vibe here is great as well - and there's never any noise distraction - making Penny House a great office away from the office or just a good spot to take in the morning paper.

Without fail, PH consistently offers friendly service with a smile. What's more is the barrista doesn't have to write on your cup to remember your name - nevertheless - it is still possible to order a gluten-free Grande super skinny special skim a la latte with soy milk and PH's magic sprinkles on top. I think they make it in a Venti size, too, but in an effort to be more user-friendly, they label the sizes in English in lieu of that esoteric corporate coffee chatter. Moreover, I'm sure they'd still write your name on the cup if you asked. Coffee with magic sprinkles. . ....

The food selection seemed pretty basic, bagels with cream cheese and/or eggs. The staff is friendly. My iced latte had really quite a lot of ice in it, which is not my preference. Still, the coffee was strong. It was also a bit bitter. It's a comfortable space to sit, with a 90-minute limit, although they're not unreasonable about it and don't enforce it unless they need the tables. I saw a wifi network but didn't ask for a password. There's no bike rack out front, but there is a thick street so that works if one has a cable lock. I wish I'd tried a latte rather than iced because it's hard to tell much, and a latte is my baseline. Given the coffee, I'd probably try one of the many other highly rated places nearby before returning, but I wouldn't object to returning if, for some reason, I had to. Oh, there's a credit card minimum, which I guess I get, but not sure how long that can last. And I'd have tipped, as I always do, on a card, but given that I barely had any cash and my change was in 5s, I wasn't able to when...
