October 2022 and one month old PiCH is a beauty. Clean lines in shades of grey, exposed brick behind the bar. Little perfume like flower holders on each table, really really nice. As we left Flatbush and walked in we could smell the newness of the place, (a smell I absolutely take pleasure in).
We were immediately sat and as it was a low-key Tuesday evening, we were given the opportunity to choose a table we preferred. We inquired about events and was graciously shown around by one of the owners a Black Woman! Yes!
Downstairs can be accessed through the restaurant or another private door from outside which I'm sure those hosting private events will appreciate. In the "basement" there's also a bar and a music set up for DJs. This space is on the smaller side but nice and new just like upstairs. I envision small parties or dinners being held there. We thanked the owner and made our way back up to the main dinning room.
There's a cozy completely private backyard but it was a rainy evening so we missed the opportunity to enjoy it.
DRINKS: We requested a taste of their rum punch and Dominique our Server was happy to accommodate as she presented our taste in two shot glasses. I'm not a fan of rum but I liked it. My friend the rum connoisseur loved it and went with that for her beverage. It really didn't disappoint. But listen, if you're pushing Caribbean taste you better be able to make some RUM PUNCH! As a whiskey lover I was intrigued by "The Forbidden Apple" which consisted of apple whiskey, cinnamon syrup, ANGOSTORA BITTERS (all caps because that's from my Island T&T haha), pineapple and orange juice. Yo! Me lovey!!! Not too sweet, not too intense and the cinnamon stick garnish was a suitable touch as I loved getting a wiff of it with each sip.
Food: Pork chops were seasoned just right. I couldn't tell if my jasmine rice was indeed that or plain white rice but that's okay because Mr. Callaloo! Mr. Callaloo made the hell up for it! Dominique adviced their callaloo was more of a soup type callaloo rather than the chunky ones many are accustomed to. I absolutely didn't mind because I love the soup-y callaloo more than anything! I adored Dominique's American pronunciation of callaloo and we had some fun with that. So cute. "KeleeLooo"
My friend scraped her pineapple shrimp bowl. She said it was that good.
Chef Guyanese, I'm so sorry I forgot your name. Was it Chef Terry? Anyway you know who you are. Thank you for making yourself available to greet us. You were so humble as we sang you praises. All the staff we interacted with were gracious.
This is a spot that swiftly got into to my Must Tell Folks about Them List!
Thank you for your hospitality PiCH. Thanks for suggesting this spot (bar) Aaron. We had a good time and we'll be...
Read moreWhatever you do, do not use Mr. McDuff to take care of your event because he will drop the ball. The management at this place is never on the same page. We had a birthday gathering in the backyard on September 16, 2023 and the event was nice but the staff (McDuff was rude). On July 20, 2023 We came into Pich and spoke Mr. McDuff we stamped out the menu for our birthday which is as follow. Birthday brunch menu for 50 people we ask for ◦ Sorrel waffle ◦ Chicken and waffles ◦ French toast ◦ Calypso omelette ◦ Wings ◦ Sides - home fries, turkey bacon, pork bacon Drinks: ◦ Mimosas - original, Guava, mango, peach ◦ Special drinks - green and yellow to match birthday theme colors ◦ 5 hookahs. We stamped out that the event was going to take place from 1:30 pm - 5:00 pm. On Friday, July 28, 2023 @ 7:01 pm. McDuff gave the pricing for the Venue (Over $4,000). On Aug 1st we met to discuss the details Of what we were paying for. It was started, we were paying for food, backyard space, drinks, set up/clean up, 2 servers, 1 bartender which was MJ; (who is one of the best workers and bartenders), the live DJ (speakers are to be outside)and the 5 hookahs. (In case it rains we will take the event inside) It was stated because they do not decorate we can come that morning to set up around 730/8 am to early! On Aug 17, 2023, we came to Pich thinking we were going to sign the contract as well as pay for the event but McDuff was not there. This is when we sat down with Ms. Shaleem. Sitting in the back with her, there was no contract left so went back over the details. As well as giving her the check. On Friday, Sept 1, 2023 we text Mcduff as well as Shaleem if we can come up and both were not available. Mcduff replied, “Hi guys I’m not going to be available till after Monday” Shaleem stated, she dropped the ball on the drinks but she will not be in that we can get in touch with Mcduff because he is supposed to be the point person. We continued with coming up because that was the time however, we still received no contract. MJ was very nice and polite trying to make sure we had the right drink and we left very satisfied. Fast forward to the day of the event, we did NOT have the special drinks we sat down with MJ because McDuff told her to only serve Mimosas. The Food was not enough for 50 people and McDuff rushed us out. We had guests coming in from other States as well as Countries and this was not a good look. We feel as if we were robbed and we did not get what we paid for. They threw away the banner we made as well as took some of our decor. We had to bring our own plates, forks, and everything. Is the food good, Yes. Are the drinks on point, Yes. Is management good, NO. This is not a good place for...
Read moreMy daughter and I went for Mothers Day Brunch, arriving at 3:35pm and our order was placed before 4pm. The drinks were weak which were 2 pitchers of Mimosa and a glass of water down... Sorrel but since we are not hard drinkers it really wasn't a bother until the food was 2 hours late. 2 hours started going into 3 hours when we finally got appetizers, they were ok but as more time went by we noticed people that arrived after us and way, way after us eating. The waitress was trying and we were very patient until my entree arrived with the wrong side dish and I was told there's no more rice and peas so they gave me white rice after waiting ONLY over 3 hours. My daughter had to wait another 45 minutes for her entree and her side was also wrong. They gave us whatever and when I made a complaint it was like it's no big deal. Mr. Godfrey whom I spoke with apologize but I get the feeling he didn't believe We had been waiting since 3:35. PLEASE RUN THE FOOTAGE BACK OF OUR ARRIVAL & DEPARTURE. Godfrey said he would handle the bill but when the bill was presented, Godfrey (left to start planning his birthday festivities for Friday, maybe... ) was nowhere around. Why would we stay so long waiting, well it was Mothers Day, my daughter made reservations in advance and it was our 1st time at PICH. We really was trying to give PICH a CHANCE. The music was really good and there was a lot of people there before we arrived. So we stayed, looking back we did not realize there were so much people there, waiting for their meals maybe just as long as we had waited. The waitress didn't even notice my daughter didn't receive what she had ordered and asked me if I wanted my meal to go, all I could do was laugh. The meal I didn't touch because it wasn't exactly what I requested. They really didn't care so We had to pack up the entrees we didn't eat as it now after 7:15pm and leave but not before we were given a bill totalling $220. When I asked why so much, they only offered 30% off the bill. One of the managers had the nerve to tell my daughter, we should come back. He only said that for the people waiting outside to think We had a good time. I'm sure a lot others before and after we left found out that PICH IS NOT ATHENTIC. Over all this was a terrible experience and PICH was a big disappointment. Hope everyone that was at PICH for Mother's Day 2024 had a terrific and delightful experience. I will not recommend PICH to anyone. Highly Disappointed Pissed...
