Horrible customer service and partly burned square pizza. I came in this evening with my 13 year old daughter to purchase a pie of pizza, a square slice, french-fries and pasta. The man behind the counter, whom I was later told is the owner, took my order and said that they are not selling single slices on Saturday night and they had no pasta. So I called my wife and she said that I should either take a second regular pie or a second square pie. I told the owner that I would take a second square pie. In response, he said that it would take 25 minutes, I said forget it, give me a second regular pie because I don't want to wait 25 minutes. So he said, someone just cancelled, I'll give you his square pie so you don't need to wait. I said fine and paid in cash (they only take cash) and he asked me to sit down. During my wait, customers kept coming in and being served. Ten minutes later, I asked what was talking so long and he ignored me. Five minutes later, I asked him again, he heard me, looked at me and ignored me as if I was doing something wrong by asking. At this point, if I hadn't paid, I would have left. Five minutes later, I walked up to the counter and stood there so he mumbled to me, when its ready, I will tell you. I walked away and five minutes later, he walked over to me with my order and dropped it on the table next to me. I asked him if this was mine, and of course, he just ignored. So I looked at the order t make sure it was really mine and left. I didn't want to wait, but he made me wait. In my daughter's words, "we shouldn't buy here again, that guy was disgusting." On my way home, I shared the experience with a friend and said that he had a horrible experience last year and that he doesn't walk in there anymore. When we got home, they square pie we waited for was partly burned and not good. The other pie was good. This is not a pizza store I plan on...
Read moreSome of the best New York style pizza I've ever had. And not just kosher pizza. Couple of things to note off the bat - it's cash only, and it helps to have a personal relationship with Judah the owner. It's usually packed on Saturday nights and during the school rush hour, and parking is impossible around here, so plan ahead.
Pizza Time has got an amazing dough recipe that results in a perfectly crunchy crust, with almost zero flop. The sauce is "perfect, amazing, and some of the best sauce ever. It's absolutely delicious, like a crabby-patty level secret recipe" says one fan. The cheese is exactly what you'd expect from a New York style pizza, not too oily, and very satisfying. Highly recommend the grandma slice, it's crunchy and delicious. For fries, I'd say get a large and do a mix of Cajun and regular.
The baked ziti is worth trying - it's a great balance of flavors and textures. Definitely call ahead, as it takes 20 minutes for them to make. It's got crispy, soft pieces, cheesy pieces, and tomato saucy pieces. Whether or not they use riccota, you barely taste it. The top is crunchy, but the inside is moist. You're dipping fries in that tomato sauce. You're fighting over that last bit of tomato sauce. Recommended with some hot pepper.
They stopped putting prices on the wall recently, but they did get a new set of pizza ovens to improve turnover. Something I'm upset about is that they seemed to have ditched the falafel option. Doesn't help for my lactose intolerant friends.
There are rumors that the first pizza after passover sells for over $800 (proceeds to charity). There's also a reason Portnoy scored them an 8.2 - that was just a confirmation of what the community already knows. This is luxury pizza, some of the best. Tell your friend to snag a table with his Kippa like old times, it's...
Read moreYou'll be very surprised at how superb the pizza is. The counterman/owner Judah is an orthodox Sephardi Jew who is one of the friendliest and cutest guys in Brooklyn. He seems physically incapable of ever stopping smiling. The pizza chef is Italian and doesn't compromise on quality and consistency. His intensity never lets up for a second. He's so obsessed with every aspect of quality that you'll often see him wiping down the tables himself. The crusts are lightly fried and the sauces are piquant and satisfying. The Sicilian square slices are especially recommended. There's a high school nearby so it's often jam packed with happy teenagers. We try to go outside of regular lunch hours so we can dine in peace. It's not fancy at all - it's deceptively great. In my opinion it's one of the top five kosher pizza places in the world. There's another one on the same avenue in Flatbush, one in Tel Aviv, one in Rosh Pina, and one in Rome. Pizza Time is easy to pass by but make sure to stop...
