Plaza Gourmet Deli — Restaurant in New York

I've been ordering from here for years. Never had problems with food quality. As of lately, the quality is not good. Black Olives were 'dissolved'. A Toasted Buttered Bagel was not Toasted as it normally is. Seems that they just put butter on it, sloppily. This one happened Twice. And, the Chicken Tenders were not thoroughly cooked, but were watery. 😡 Before the Black Olives, and the Chicken Tenders, I presented the matter of the Non-Toasted Bagels to the counter-person. He stated that the Toaster machine may be going bad. Ok...well, if you operate a business, and a customer complains about the Non-toastedness, and sloppiest of Butter, you[Owners] should look into the matter, and/or purchase a new Toaster machine. After all, it is on for many hours of the day, for many years. I'd hate to be the one to discover that the Thermostat on Toaster is blown. And, they won't service or replace it or the machine. This is a very well-known staple at Newkirk Plaza, for many who want decent-to-good food. My review stars are about Fairness, regarding recent experiences. P.s. after sampling one or 2 Chicken Tenders, I did get sick in the stomach. I am being careful about Fast Food choices from this...

On the morning of 6/18/25, I went to my favorite Deli here, and was on mine to order my sandwich. Once again, the assistant Grill Person, Benny, refused to take my order. He stood off to the side, where the salad toppings, sinks were, as if he was doing some work, but he literally stood there. He kept going to the refrigerator, and back to the Sinks, and standing there, while the main Grill Person was preparing orders. Benny has done this ever since I got upset over human hair being on my bagels, recently. As a customer, I have the right to complain.

As a person who works in Food Safety, I will handle this matter accordingly, if it happens again. If a worker does not want to take a customers order, they should be removed from their place...

I’m an authentic Brooklynite and can vouch that this place used to be very good! Alex was a dope worker. Very pleasant and generous with the portions. Lately he hasn’t been there. The Arabic guys who I think are the owners are nice too. The semi tall and lanky older Latino guy has a trash attitude, and the other worker, stubby and short-ish Latino guy adopted the same demeanor. Shame because the food is actually good.
