I recently had the chance to try out Pugsley Pizza after seeing a glowing review on YouTube. With all the hype, I was genuinely excited to indulge in what I hoped would be a delicious pizza experience. Unfortunately, my enthusiasm quickly fizzled out after my first few bites.
I opted for the half penne and half cheese pizza, which seemed like a fun fusion idea on the menu. However, the execution left much to be desired. The dough was far too chewy for my liking. Instead of that blissful stretch and crunch one hopes to find in a good pizza crust, I felt like I was battling through a workout just to take a bite. It was a significant drawback that overshadowed any potential flavor the toppings might have brought to the table.
As for the toppings, they were decent but nothing spectacular. The cheese was adequately melted, but the overall combination couldn’t compensate for the less-than-ideal crust. I had built up such high expectations, but what I got was a pizza experience that felt more like a chore than a treat.
In hindsight, I really wish I had tried a slice before committing to a whole pie. The disappointment was palpable, and I can't help but feel that I may have missed out on better options in the area. Unfortunately, based on this experience, I don’t see myself returning to Pugsley Pizza anytime soon.
If you're someone who prioritizes crust quality in your pizza, you might want to think twice before diving into a whole pie here. I truly hope my experience was an outlier as I’d hate for anyone else to feel the same letdown I did. I'm sure everyone else has their preferences, but for me, Pugsley Pizza just didn’t hit...
Read moreI have lived in New York for 5 years and this was one of the worst customer service experiences I have ever had in the city. When we came in, there was no one in line, so we went right up to the counter to order... and stood there for 5 minutes waiting while no one said anything to us. When our order was finally taken, they got my nephew's order right but mine wrong. When they handed us our pizzas and garlic knots (which in fairness, were tasty), the woman tallied our total at $11 and then... walked away with no explanation. I waited another 3 minutes but no one came back to receive payment. I asked another man behind the counter how to pay, but he acted like he didn't hear me even though I was two feet from him. So I thought, "I guess you pay at the end like at a sit down restaurant." I took my pizza, went and sat down, took two bites, and then the same guy, who had just barely ignored me, shouted to me that I had to come back and pay. When I came back, he acted annoyed as if I had tried to eat without paying. As I was paying, my nephew asked for napkins, and again, the guy acted like he didn't hear him. I finished paying and he turned and started walking away, so I said, "excuse me, we asked for napkins." He grunted, turned back around, rolled his eyes, grabbed a few napkins from behind the counter, and slammed them on the counter as if this was the the most obnoxious thing a guest could ask for. Finally, we were able to eat our pizza in peace.
Tl;dr: The pizza is pretty good and the college ambience fun, but if you can't deliver one single basic customer service essential, you...
