So this a a cafe in the neighborhood that ive lived in for almost 20 years. Ive been in this establishment a good 10 times.
First of all, if you are waiting on line and order, and there are hospital workers that are friends with the female ( indian or guyanese ) cashier, save yourself the hassle of waiting forever. Ive been unfortunately on the short end of her favoritism. I order a salad 1 time, her friend from the hospital came in, order 5 different things and tell me why he ledt about 10 minutes before me.
I ordered a turkey burger just plain with mayo and ketchup, and this guy orders 3 breakfast sandwiches, all with specific gluten allergies, and i left 10 minutes after he ordered. I dont believe this place does things by accruity. They see people they know and ask the coks to take care of those orders first.
Not to mention, i once found a dead fly in one of their lunch hot salad bar area. I didnt eat what the fly was on but after my meal and seeing the cooks replace or add more food to the salad bar, i saw that 1 fly still there and with more food on it.
The cashier had the nerve to ask me one time how do i order something and then leave? Keep in mind i was frustrated waiting for a hamburger that took almost 20 minutes so i went outside to have a cigarette.
This place is not where you want to go when youre pressed for time, not a place you want to go for good food. And definitely not the place to go to when you see that cashier chick playing favorites with friends she made. Because of her, ive been late to work once because my lunch break Cannot consist of waiting 20 minutes for a hamburger. Unacceptable. I waited 20 minutes and saw about 3-4 people who ordered after me get their food first.
I am just one of many friends in that area that share this sentiment. They will also soon review this place.
My recommendation is to...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreThis place was badā¦.like really bad. I was walking to another place when I spotted this joint and was like hey, my namesake, gotta support and give it a try š. Boy do I regret it. It is not really a restaurant/cafe. Itās like a cross between a bodega and a hot buffet place. The hot buffet is sorta expensive (but what isnāt expensive these days?) at $9.99/lb. I tried (literally) a spoon full of Mac and cheese, sweet plantains and a piece of fried fish which came up to almost $9. EVERYTHING was disgusting!𤮠Nothing had any seasoning on it. The plantains were OOZING an extreme amount of oil and barely fried. The Mac n cheese was definitely made with Cheez Whiz and other imitation ācheesesā. The place was extremely hot inside. No AC and the cooler for drinks was broken so every beverage they sold was room temperatureā¦..in July, in NYC summer heat temps of 90+ degrees. I guess they get good business because they are locate across the street from a hospital center and the area has little to NO food options. Luck them! I would...
Ā Ā Ā Read moreI have only had the breakfast and a turkey sandwich and I have to say that I'm fairly impressed with the breakfast -- especially the fact that they make decent scrambled eggs!
Not the best but okay and at least they know what it is; many hole-in-the-wall places actually think it's just chopped up omelette-styled eggs!! And the sausage patties and links are actually flavorful on account of the oil (some people would think it "greasy" but to me that's the whole point of "hearty" foods that fill you up)...ditto the hash browns.
The turkey sandwich on the other hand was the same as you can get literally anywhere else, especially since they charge extra for basics like lettuce, tomato, and onions -- and hardly give you any for it!!!
But I'll definitely make this a regular stop for when I want a good old-fashioned hearty breakfast! Unfortunately it's pretty expensive at $10/lb. but most folks would probably not eat in the "hungry man" portions I do and a petite lady should be able to spend...
