I grew up in this neighborhood and witnessed this mosque become what it is from a little green house to the Muslim Center it is today. I am a member of this mosque and over the years have found it troubling to attend the women’s section and find a quiet space. Without fail every single time, the women talk loudly and allow their children to run around and disturb others while they are praying. There is a complete lack of etiquette of how to act when you are in allah’s house. Should you bring it to anybody’s attention, they insist that this is the community’s way of acting - as though this is normal behavior for a masjid. Having gone to masjids all over the country and the world, there is an understanding of how to be quiet and respectful of the shared space but NOT HERE. Apparently talking through the kutbah, talking on your cell phone and children half dressed yelling at the top of their lungs is what the women’s section is about here but it’s my fault that I cannot concentrate on my prayer after I brought this to the appropriate parties’ attention. Also, apparently the imam encourages the children to run around the masjid, that was also the feedback I got from a sister there. I find it hard to believe that any imam would encourage the disruption of somebody’s prayer and if this indeed true, then the children should go to the men’s section and act the same way they do in the women’s section and let’s see how long the policy of encouraging children to be free in the masjid lasts. After 30 plus years of attending this specific masjid, I can say with certainty that this is the worst masjid I have ever been too because of how TERRIBLE the women are here. It should also be noted that if you’re anything other than Bengali, they stare at you and if your black, they won’t even respond to your salam. This is a disgusting representation of the Muslim community and it’s not a Muslim center. It’s a cafeteria for women who don’t have the freedom to leave their house to come and socialize in a place that is acceptable to...
Read moreThe Jamaica Muslim Center of New York is a fantastic place to connect with the local Muslim community and participate in a range of activities and events. The center boasts a spacious and well-maintained facility that is equipped with a prayer area, classrooms, and meeting rooms. The center's staff is welcoming, knowledgeable, and always available to assist with any questions or needs.
One of the highlights of the Jamaica Muslim Center is the diverse range of programs and services it offers. From Quranic classes to youth programs to community outreach initiatives, there is something for everyone at the center. The center's events are well-organized, engaging, and create a strong sense of community among attendees.
One area of improvement for the Jamaica Muslim Center could be to make its governing body more diverse, young, and reshuffled. While the current leadership is knowledgeable and experienced, incorporating fresh perspectives and new ideas could help to enhance the center's operations and ensure it continues to meet the evolving needs of the community.
Overall, I highly recommend the Jamaica Muslim Center of New York for anyone seeking a welcoming and vibrant community to connect with and engage in meaningful...
Read moreGreat Mosque in New York. Great pleasure to offer prayer here. The best part of the mosque is that they have number of Imam's to conduct prayers. So the Khudbah becomes really nice. Tarabih salat during month of Ramadan is 20 rakah and full Quran is being recited during that time. You will enjoy offering prayer and listening lectures. Many scholar visits the mosque throughout the year thus people get the opportunity to listen their lecture. Toilets and wash rooms are clean. there are many mosque base program runs throughout the year. Everyday evening one Imama remains in a room in mosque after Asor prayer for consultations. I personally did not take this opportunity but it is their and open for anyone. Friday there are two Jamat. Prayer times are available in the...
