Immediately upon entering, you're greeted by some of the friendliest and most conscientious wait staff members you'll probably have the chance of meeting in nyc. On a warm Friday night for a party of 6, we still managed to snag an outdoor table that fit all of us. The staff were so attentive, even more so, seemingly, to the outside tables, that we noticed them consistently eyeing whether our glasses had enough water in them at all times. Once the water level was detected below 3/4 of the glass, they came to refill it. Beyond this, the food was well-portioned, flavorful, quickly-prepared, and induced a joyful ecstasy in all of us. Once we licked every crumb off our plates, we thought to wish our friend a happy birthday with a cake we had brought to the restaurant. Given that many times nyc restaurants charge a service fee for cakes that were not purchased directly through the establishment, we were hesitant to ask the staff whether we could do it ourselves or not. Upon asking, the kindest server simply replied, "what do you mean by charge you? Nah I got you," taking the cake, setting up the candles we had purchased himself, without us asking, lighting them, and then sneaking up behind the birthday girl to make the moment special. We didn't catch the server's name, but it goes to show how this place goes above and beyond for their customers. 15/10 for me -- please do give this place a chance, even if you're not super familiar with South Asian cuisine. I promise, you...
Read moreI just tried Sathi for the first time and it was fantastic. I went with friends and we did the price fix menu which got each of us an appetizer, a main entree, rice, and either a side or desert. We all got something different and shared everything.
The vegetable samosas and pakora were both delicious. As for the mains, we had Chana masala, which was great. We also had butter paneer which I had never had before but quite enjoyed. We had vegetable korma as well and while I thought the sauce was good, there was a decent bit of broccoli in it which I thought was kind of weird. We got garlic naan, paneer naan, and Dahl soup as sides all of which were enjoyed. They ended up comping dessert for all of us which was very nice. Sathi also serves beer and wine and we enjoyed a bottle of Prosecco with our meal.
We sat outside in their enclosed seating which is also heated. Our waiter was very friendly and happily answered any questions we had. All of our food came out promptly. Prices were reasonable, the price fixed option was like $24 before tip. The wine was like $34 for the bottle. The vegetarian entrees are priced lower than most of the meat entrees which I always appreciate. All in all I had a great time here and would definitely come back. My friends and I all left feeling...
Read moreI love going to this little hidden gem! Their lunch menu is a great deal. They offer two meats with one defaulted to Chicken Tikka Marsala or a vegetarian option and the other of your choice. The choices are vast!
After picking your mains, you can also choose naan or rice. I opted for the rice but my coworker chose the naan. Boy, I wish I got the naan instead because it was freshly baked. Highly recommend the naan as it was charred on the outer layer and very soft when you bite into it.
My dish has the Tikka Marsala and Lamb Saag. No wonder that Tikka Marsala was one of the defaults because it was delicious! You could just eat the sauce alone. I wanted to lick the bowl!
The Lamb Saag was average. I wish I could adjust the spiciness level on the mains as I prefer a bit of a kick. These two dishes were very mild in terms of spicy level.
The restaurant is small but average for NYC. I wish they had turned up the heat a bit or get door insulation in the winter time as there were drafts coming into the restaurant while we dined.
Pros: Great value for lunch No wait Attentive staff Naan was freshly baked Tikka Marsala was creamy
Cons: A bit cold indoor Did not offer to adjust...
