Shingane High Line — Restaurant in New York

Stopped here on a whim while walking the High Line. As Angelenos visiting NYC, the idea of gimbap was appealing. We got the veg gimbap and the bulgogi gimbap. They were both so good! What a satisfying meal.

After this, although we felt full, we got a liberty bun, stuffed with cheese. We really enjoyed chatting with Mr. Shin, and we learned that he has had custom molds made for these, with the head of the Statue of Liberty on one side, and the torch on the other. It felt really poignant to be offered these iconic symbols of America, and of immigrant optimism, while our hometown was under attack by ICE. But the bun dissolved all of those kinds of thoughts. It was so good that it dissolved all thought. All there was in the world was the perfectly seasoned cheese filling and the perfect, perfect outer dough shell. I don't know if I've ever eaten anything as perfectly Platonically perfect as this.

10/10 would and will do again, would...

I’ve seen many 10 won coin cake when I was in Seoul, but never actually tried one. I was excited to try out this viral snack at Shingane.

＊Cheese Goddess Bun Their Goddess Bun is a coin-shaped wheel cake with the Statue of Liberty on both sides. You can pick between Cheese (bestseller), Red Bean, and Chocolate fillings.

All coin cakes are made to order. It is cute watching them pour the batter into the mold, flip the pan, and gently hold the warm bun with a stick. The half melted mozzarella cheese was an indulgence — I had so much fun playing with the cheese pull.

Even though $7 plus tax for a street snack is on the pricier side, I will still grab it again when the instant craving hits. Plus their coin cakes taste much better than that from the new spot in ktown. More cheese, softer interior and crispier crust.

Food is amazing. I loved my red bean Goddess bun. Home made red bean paste!!!! 💞 My kid loved the cheese bun, they got a second one. Nutella one was amazing as well. I can’t tell you which is my favorite, because they are all good. And as a woman and feminist, I LOVE LOVE LOVE that they are Goddess buns. If you are a goddess yourself, go get a Goddess Bun!

Kimbap was perfect and very filling. Order just one unless you are ravenous.
