Security staff working evening of July 16 2024 seriously made my friends and I consider ever coming back. The security made us feel unsafe and like we were doing something wrong. There was a thunderstorm warning (wasn't raining yet), my friends and I were using the bathroom, which is in the furthest back corner of the roof, so we didn’t know what was going on. Security came yelling at us like we did something wrong, seriously thought we were in trouble. Told us the roof was closing and we "had to go."
The oldest security guard who appeared to be the supervisor because of how serious and unreasonably rude he was acting. My friends and I had been drinking at the winery and wanted to wait and plan our next moves. While we were waiting in downstairs THE LOBBY area before even going up the ramp, some young kids like 13/14 came just trying to charge their phones there was an outlet right by the door. The guard was putting his hands on the children and their chargers, removing the chargers out the wall. They were just for trying to charge their phones in the public area. Online it say it closed much later 12 or 1 am. Other people were steady trying to come inside but he was the most rude to the children doing nothing wrong. He started the whole altercation. When my friends and I left, he starred daggers at us the whole time we walked down the side of the building, mind you, we were just enjoying the sunset. Left feeling very unwelcomed.
I understand wanting to keep out people who would cause trouble, but this behavior was just uncalled for and...

Read moreFew people know how interesting and ground-breaking this pier was when it was originally built in the 1950s after a fire destroyed the previous, largely wooden pier occupied by The Grace Line (a line that had served central and South America and later the Caribbean for a century). Supporting all that we see above water are 3 large buoyant caissons designed by Emil Praeger that were literally constructed on a dry lakebed upstate and floated down the Hudson River. These still watertight structures still support 90% of the weight of all that concrete and steel that makes up the pier's superstructure. I've Waited for years to have this start to open. They---Google and the re-developers I guess---have clearly spent many, many millions both inside and out on this iconic pier. And yes, as others have already noted, for now, it is a nice quiet, sparsely visited spot w/amazing views of the river, uptown and downtown---until it...
