I am an American and my husband is from Sri Lanka. Recently we went to this restaurant Spicy Lanka. my Husband always says that Sri Lankan people welcome them and treat well. But even he was so unhappy about the way she welcome us.. She did not serve us water until we ask for it . As i know its a tradition to serve water in Sri Lanka before they serve the meal.. If this is a Sri lankan restaurant i believe that they should add these things too..
The food!! ugh!! From where should i start?
We ordered a vegetable kottu which is made out of parata roti but the sadness was the gravy they had used to make it was gone bad.. And we asked it with out eggs since my husband is vegetarian, but they had added eggs and it wasn't cook well..
Also we ordered a Thali with Brown rice I believe that rice wasn't gone bad but that smells weird ... And the Dhal curry was too cold and dry to eat. And Drumstick curry was not heat up well too.
We also ordered a Devil Chicken although it was made out of frozen chicken which is not fresh, it was not bad I do liked the spices they had used it was sweet and spicy.
Though I liked the devil chicken my husband and myself was extremely unhappy about the way she served us and about the condition of the Thali and the kottu.
( we had to ask her to clean the table since we didn't had enough room to keep food on our table because it was the tiny table near the trophy)
The most annoying thing was she was asking about the check before we are done with the food..
I like the way they had painted the walls and the water fountain that makes me feel relaxed
To be honest I wasn't happy about food and the service.
I will not recommend this restaurant to any one since they serve food which are not in a good condition to eat..
I am sorry but I had to let you guys know about the bad experience we had with this Sri Lankan restaurant, Spicy Lanka.
And according to my husband's mind the waitress's name was...
Read moreWow what a great experience we had. It was pur first time trying Sri Lankan food. We started off ordering a bunch of drinks. Some imported from Sri Lanka like Elephant house Melon and ginger beer. We had the passion splash, nelli crush. Not only were they colorful and beautiful but each had a distinct taste and took us on a journey to prepare for out delicious meal. We ordered the shrimp lamprias in a banana leaf. 10 star. Devine and delicious. Rice with cashew curry, caramelized eggplant, fried fish cake and fried egg, plantains that had a hint of coconut and other things. We devoured this. Great dish for first time people. We ordered the vegetarian devolied firecracker. I loved the lotus root and eggplant. Nice coating and taste. I ordered this mid spicy sp I could try how thry may eat it. My friend cant eat spicy and this restaurant did a great job giving the exact spice adjustment you request. Crispy flavorful veggies. We ordered this pyramid looking dish called Kothu with chicken and string hoppers. What a hit. The dipping sauce was amazing. I had housemade hot paste to add. Now the desserts are a must. The Ceylon Falooda blew my mind. It was like across between an icecream float and bobba but unique and rosy. 10 star. The watalallan flan was tasty. The Semiya Payasam pudding was warm and comforting. Well be back to try all the other foods we didn't get to taste. Highly recommend. Sansi our waitress was kind and...
Read moreI recently had the pleasure of dining at a hidden gem of a restaurant called "Spicy Lanka” From the moment I stepped inside, I was greeted with warm and friendly service that set the tone for an exceptional dining experience.
The menu at Spicy Lanka was a delightful mix of traditional and innovative dishes. I started with the house-made Meat Rolls, which was crusty on the outside and soft on the inside, accompanied by a flavorful spicy sauce. For my main course, I opted for the mutton Lamprais, which was cooked to perfection and served in a Bamboo box covered in Banana Leaf. The mutton was incredibly tender and melted in my mouth with each bite.
What truly set Spicy Lanka apart was the attention to detail in every dish. Each plate was beautifully presented, with vibrant colors and artistic plating. The flavors were thoughtfully balanced, with a perfect blend of spices and seasonings.
To top off the meal, I indulged in watalappam, which was rich in caramelized sugar. This dessert was accompanied by cashews that added a crunchiness to the cake.
Overall, Spicy Lanka exceeded my expectations in every way. From the impeccable service to the exquisite flavors, it was a dining experience that left me wanting more. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a memorable Sri Lankan...
