Tabu lounge — Restaurant in New York

Absolutely spectacular experience dining at Tabu lounge. To begin with, we did not have plans for the night. All we knew was: we wanted to go out for dinner and we wanted to stay in the area. As you may know, the area does not offer that many nice places to go for dinner, everything is pretty old school. A friend who lives in the neighborhood recommended that we check out Tabu, and that was absolutely beyond our expectations!

AMBIENCE It was a Sunday night, so it was not too busy. The hostess offered us a few seats to choose from, and we had a very intimate table. The tables are not too close to each other, which makes it very comfortable to have a conversation and not feel like a table on the right / left is listening to you. Also, it smells really good inside the restaurant and the music is ambient / chill house. They also have a private space for bigger companies.  Lastly, it is important to note that they have hookah, for a reasonable price.

FOOD We had zero expectations for the food, but that was absolutely unexpectedly amazing! Their sushis are something magnificent and mouthwatering. We initially ordered two rolls, but we could not stop and we had to try every roll on the menu (sorry I did not take as many pictures I was too busy enjoying it :) )! Guys, I've tried many sushi in NY, in a few best restaurants and Tabu easily falls in my top 3 sushi places! Obviously, we were so full by the end of the night that we only ordered one dessert to share and that did not disappoint as well.

SERVICE Everyone was super nice and welcoming. We didn't have any issues. Our waiter was extremely nice and at the end of our night he brought us some complimentary champagne! Also, as we found out Tabu is a family business and it's been here for the last 22 years, maybe that explains the food and overall quality of the place.

Extremely Disappointed

I had a very unpleasant experience at Tabu recently. My friends and I felt that we were treated unfairly, and the staff’s behavior was unprofessional and unwarranted.

Once we have been seated in the little cave room the staff told us that we can only stay there until 11 after that time it will be reserved. So my friends and I ordered a couple of drinks and a hookah. As the time approached we asked one of the servers if they can sit us somewhere else where we could continue our night. After a short while a different staff member comes and in extremely aggressive tone “ I told you, you can’t stay here past 11 you have to leave!” While I tried to explain in the calm manner that we asked another staff member if we could be seated in a different place which in return this lady says “ don’t you know I’m in charge here, why are you talking to her and not me” baffled and confused to why or how I need to know who’s in charge.

We tried to address the situation calmly, but the response we received made it clear that customer satisfaction was not a priority. This left a sour impression and made the overall experience very disappointing.

Ps. there was nobody waiting for the room we sat in so that was a made up lie.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but I believe it’s important to share this so others are aware. I hope the management takes this feedback seriously and makes...

I’ve been a patron for years now and I have to say the place doesn’t cease to amaze. Any day of the week you can find amazing food - be it delicious, fresh sushi; fantastic oysters; truffle fries; and their most recently rediscovered menu with skirt steak and salad, muscles; crab cakes; miso salmon; short rib bites; and roasted eel salad. Most importantly, the desert - the panna cotta and crème brûlée WILL rock your world!!! Now to the main attraction - the bar! OMG, the drinks, the wine menu!!! Whatever your little heart desires! Mine? Ah do I love the wine list today but tomorrow I may feel like the Clover Club or perhaps it’ll be the Houston, You Got Problems 😊 they’ve got it all and you can bet they KNOW how to make it!!! And THEN there is the hookah - and THAT is just the cherry on top of the most amazing cake you can wish for to spend any one of your nights at this wonderful place, I kid you not. The music, the vibe, the food, the drinks, the staff, the atmosphere - Tabu has it all! All of this is waiting for you off the beaten path in South Brooklyn! Wouldn’t change my happy place for any place in the world! Keep getting it done...
