What an experience! This is one of the places that you get dragged in right from the door because it looks so cool! (They had me at $1.50 for super fresh oysters). My husband and I went there for dinner, we felt immediately welcomed by Ellie, who escorted us to this really nice booth table (she used a very cool word to describe it, which I very sadly can’t remember), she told us the night specials. We started with their deviled eggs and fried artichoke (both aioli and cashew sauce are great). For our mains we have shared their Brick Chicken, I have never thought that a chicken leg could taste that good, right on point with a crispy skin, also their Grilled Market Salad with fresh catch grilled fish. Everything was so good that we decided to also try their Fish sandwich and OH MY GOD! 10 out of 10, nice tempura fish sandwich on the softest brioche bun. Highly recommend! Their desert menu is also really great. Their cocktail menu is very intriguing, the names are great. We had the bela (Prosecco and gin cocktail) and a The Christopher Lee, both great, but let me tell you about their “the nandor “ expresso drink - my goodness! We had a really great experience tonight at the Flying Fox, and we can’t wait to go back to Bruch on Sunday! Glad to have them so close to home

I am a big horrorhead and a former chef. This place is awesome on both sides of that evaluation. It's a cool horror space with amazing ambience, a bunch of cool decorational set pieces, and constant horror playing on all the screens. I got to discuss with strangers at the bar the influence of "The People Under the Stairs" on the genre, which is a cool vibe to experience. For the chef side, I've been to gimmick spaces like nerd bars, D&D bars, trekkie bars, and almost always food is an afterthought and overpriced dishes are pushed as themed nostalgia-bait. The vegetarian dish I had here (haggis) was legitimately well-seasoned, roasted, and excellently composed. The sauce and seasoning were excellent, and everything was from scratch. My friend had the sandwich on special which was very solid with house-made chips that were seasoned with a spice mix that is delicious. Bartender, Ellie, was super nice and made some killer mixed drinks that were equally well-designed and not just sugary pre-mixed horror references. Oh, and use the bathroom, the one that is "watching you". You won't be disappointed.

Plenty of times you check out a place online, go there and it just falls short. Not this place. As soon as we walked in we were in love. They had the Munsters playing on the TV (the theme song is my ring tone) so happy about that. Our waitress was friendly and engaging. She was awesome, I forgot her name cause I'm terrible but we were there on the 16th. We ordered burgers, juicy and perfectly cooked, haggis, vegan and delicious and mussels which also were spectacular, the chef is a keeper. I thought I was done but then I was told about the chocolate truffles. I didn't think they could top the food until I bite into that rich, dark, smooth truffles. I'll probably be dreaming about that all night. My pic is off the truffles and my haggis with a shot of scotch.

Chad worked with Anthony Bourdain (in fact, close friends with, I think)— and I'm not sure why they don't scream that fact from a megaphone, but I suspect it's because he's a modest, genuine master chef in his own right, and doesn't need the spectre looming overhead... and nor does it. This place is no remake. This place is it's own big screen. I've eaten at Les Halles a few times. It was fantastic. However, I can honestly say, the Flying Fox burger outdoes it. And the fish sandwich is like no other fish sandwich I've had. And that is the amazing part of the Flying Fox: it's a "pub fare" menu that takes a simple menu item, and makes it just... just... special... ...special in the fantastic vintage movie posters, special in the solid cutlery (subtle detail, sure, but it was comforting to eat comfort food with a real sturdy set), special in the focaccia with a cashew spread, special in the beautiful endives on the salad…oh, and the bathrooms… oh I could go on and on. I think that's what I love about the place: the food is like exploring an old mansion... a burger turns into an interesting carving of a sculpted medium-rare with a tasty bun, and a delicious mushroom sauce that I’ve never quite tasted… familiar and unusual at the same time. “The Count” mocktail seemed simple enough, but then slowly changes color, as if its fangs came out halfway through the movie. The next time I go, I might get a flashlight and go for the vegetarian haggis. Yes. Haggis. I bet it’s good enough to make Dracula a vegetarian. Attention to detail at every turn. Fun, unassuming crowd. Tip-top tier fare in an unexpected, low-brow pub in Ridgewood. This place is an instant cult classic with a monster-talented chef, that needs to...

I have now come to the Flying Fox Tavern several times, and I LOVE it here! Super friendly staff, amazingly creative and unique cocktails AND mocktails, and a shockingly good food menu and chef! The gothic/horror theme throughout the tavern is so much fun. TVs are showing some cult classics such as Beetlejuice, Killer Clowns from Outer Space, etc. Even the bathrooms are all decked out in theme. You will spot something new on display every time you're here. The standard menu is amazing. I am thrilled they have oysters!! So good! The fried artichokes are DELISH, the vegan haggis is amazing (unexpected but true!), and if you are a fan of the movie "Seven," treat yourself and order the Black Forest Cake for dessert (trust me)! Also - don't overlook the menu specials! I had a fantastic catfish meal and it was out of this world!! They even have a brunch, I have not been yet, but will for sure be checking it out! Staff really do go the extra mile to make you feel at home. Special events that sometimes include a price fixe menu will keep you coming back (Burns Night, Friday the 13th) - so watch their social media for announcements. I don't even live in the neighborhood, but will travel for the great food and drinks and the excellent vibe! The inclusive menu options make it a great spot for EVERYONE - drinkers and non-drinkers alike will love the cocktails and mocktails. Vegans and meat-eaters have lots of menu options to choose from. Such a great destination - I'm looking forward to my next visit to the Flying Fox...
