I live around the corner from Decades and have been wanting to try this place for a while. Unfortunately, I felt quite disappointed with the food.
We ordered takeaway and we got a caesar salad w/ chicken, chicken parm, and the asparagus and carrots. To be fair, we did not order the pizza, so I can’t speak to that.
The food was mediocre, the portions small and extremely overpriced. The chicken parm was overcooked and dry, the carrots and asparagus were $16 and there were like 8 small carrots and 8 shriveled asparagus sprigs.
That being said, the staff was friendly and the ambiance is really nice. I understand that restaurants need to meet their bottom line and I’m sure it’s a nice place to meet for dinner with friends and have drinks, but if a pizza place is going to charge these prices, at least have large portions and/or have stand out food. I could get the same order from any local Italian restaurant in the area for half the price and much larger portions.
It blows my mind what people are willing to pay for mediocre food in this area, just because the interior is nice. If you’re looking for amazing pizza,...
Read moreI wanna start by saying I live in the neighborhood and have come to Decades 3 times and tried different pizzas and drinks each time. I feel like I've given it a fair chance.
Decades is a 2 star spot. Not because it's bad, per se, but because it isnt what it says it is. If I compared it to all the other pizza spots in Ridgewood (like Susano's, Julie's, and San Remo) I'd give it a 4, but it's not a normal pizza spot. This is a gourmet pizza spot, and as such it just doesn't deliver.
The pizza has been mediocre each time I got it. Last week it was too salty, this week it was a little burnt, and every time it's been too acidic. Again, if this was a normal pizza joint that'd all be fine, but this place is expensiveee.
The drinks are also nothing to write home about.
I don't get why people are raving about this spot.
There is no reason to come here. Velma's is MUCH better if u want a cool, trendy pizza spot, and Rustico on Fresh Pond has more authentic, cheaper fancy pizza. Don't buy the hype, go to one of those...
Read moreDecades is a modern casual pizza joint that recently opened in Ridgewood, Queens. Co-founded by two pizza-lovers, Zach Hughes and Paul Cacici, who share some serious NYC restaurant and pizza cred, previously working at legendary spots like Roberta's, Union Square Cafe, Llama Inn, and finally, Ops, where the two met in 2017. As Ridgewood is heating up with several hot new openings, this is another great spot the neighborhood has added to its repertoire. The fresh starters, perfectly composed New York style pizza, and fun natural wine list makes this the perfect weeknight dinner spot to catch up with friends or have a casual date night. I highly recommend starting off with the stunning and delicate Scallop Crudo starter before indulging in some large pizzas. For the pizza, I had to try "The Regular" pizza made with tomato, basil, mozzarella, parmigiano, and olive oil. I loved the classic New York style, with crust that perfectly walked the line between doughy and crispy. A bottle of the Joao Pato "Maria Duck"...
