This restaurant is an absolute gem in the city. Intimate atmosphere, meticulously decorated, and wonderful service.
We ordered the curried carrots, yams, Brussels sprouts, fries, cod fritters, coconut fish sandwich, and cheeseburger.
At first, I questioned the placement of a cheeseburger on the menu, but I was quickly humbled by the first bite. Excellent, rich flavor, and well seasoned. The fries had a lemon zest to them that made me think that I was on an island.
The curried carrots varied wonderfully in texture. While they could’ve used a little more salt and perhaps a slightly thicker curry, they tasted wonderful. The yams were such a treat - crispy on the outside, soft and pillowy on the inside, and a little heat to cut through the richness.
The Brussels sprouts blew me away. Pumpkin seeds, bacon, and dates really elevated the Brussels sprouts, and I could not put my fork down to pace myself.
The coconut fish sandwich was insane. The fish is nearly double the size of the bun itself, and the sandwich is so crispy. It maybe could’ve used the tiniest dash of salt, but that’s just me being picky. So, so good.
The cod fritters were nearly perfect - the texture seemed a little dense and the temperature at which they came to our table was a little low for our liking. Still, they tasted lovely with the spicy aioli.
We finished our meal with the tres leches. If you like your tres leches on the denser side, this is for you. The coconut was toasted, which tasted absolutely heavenly with the cake. The sponge was a tad dense for my liking, but I know that preferences for the style can vary widely. I felt so guilty eating it all, but the raspberries paired wonderfully with it.
This meal took me out of New York and put me on an island. I will most certainly...
Read moreWent with a friend for dinner and drinks and it super chic inside . Welcome with friendly chill vibes . Our Server was Marley super sweet and attentive gave great selections to the menu from food to drinks . We had the brussel sprouts. Cod fish fritters. Hot honey chicken the fish sandwich everything food was delicious. My friend had as a beverage Moscow mule and they loved it where I had the margarita which was infused with jalapenos I wasn't a fan but Marley asked the mythologist to put passion fruit flavor and I enjoyed it better. Next time I go I'll try a different drink cuz it wasn't my favorite. Otherwise everything is great. I like that. It's a chill atmosphere. Music was great service. Everyone was very friendly and catered to you. They have a coat check. Definitely more of an adult atmosphere in a sense where there was a child there so I wouldn't necessarily say it's just for adults but I think it's more of a if you wanted to go on a first date or with friends. It's very much that because the menu is more catered for drinks, alcohol, beverages and the menu was very short. There was more liquor then food and I'm a foodie more than a drinker but I know if I want to get drinks with my girls or my other friends I would definitely go here for more of a relaxed experience it's more dimlet and more romantic with little lights on the table. The booths are high tables but as manageable. If your plus size yes that's important. They do have lower seating. Eventually it was getting more packed during the night but it wasn't overcrowded where a bumping elbows with someone else so that was also a plus. Overall I enjoyed my time so did my friend. We look forward to going again as that's our...
Read moreWe’ve had this place saved a while as we live locally and we’ve been looking for an excuse to go. The meal was underwhelming: while some dishes were good, for the prices it’s one of the most expensive meals we’ve had in the city recently ($129 for 1 drink, 1 side, 1 main each for 2, before tip) and the food was pretty much average. The burger was very loose, clearly preground, and the tomatoes very inconsistently sliced (one massive and thin, the other slice small and very very thick). At $26, or $36 with fries, it’s maybe the 3rd most expensive I’ve had in the city, and somewhere in the lower half for quality. The chicken and Brussels sprouts were good, but the plating was odd: chicken was in a large bowl with a massive pool of honey at the bottom. Plates for eating were side plates, which meant you ate one dish at a time. The Diri was a very small serving of very standard rice, overflowing in the tiny serving bowl; to serve, they provided a massive serving spoon which meant spilling rice and beans everywhere. Another odd thing were the cocktails - my wife and I both ordered martinis, but one had about 25% more than the other. Overall, for the expense I don’t think I’d return - the attention to detail was low, and with the prices for us it just did not feel competitive with other late night fine dining options we’ve had in terms of quality...
