Honestly I really love this place and I still do despite a very unfortunate encounter with one of the ladies there. The way she handled the situation was very disappointing and for an establishment that promotes peace, love, and kindness- this employee did not encompass that in this situation. I treated the situation with the utmost respect and kindness because I believe in the mission this cafe stands for. I am a regular at both smile and beyond and this cafe. I introduced so many people to these cafes because of the love I have for the people and food. I usually order the rishi chai, which comes in a teapot. This has been new where I realize the flute of the teapot is scuffed with black residue to the point when I scratched it , it builds up under my nails. It’s happened 3x and all three times, I discreetly let the ladies know and the ladies usually just replace it for me. I let the ladies know secretly so I won’t embarrass the establishment and also for feedback so they can be mindful when cleaning. That’s all. No biggie
On Friday, it happened again. I told the woman in the front again discreetly and respectfully. She replaces my pot but then passively aggressively tells me “ I don’t know what to do after that” and I was confused because it wasn’t necessary to say because I accepted the new teapot and it was clean and again why be passive aggressive to a respectful customer. I mean it is my hard earn money and I don’t want to spend it drinking from something dirty.
I kindly went up and spoke to the other woman who is the sweetest and always handles the situation with kindness. I asked her for a refund due to the attitude I received and I gently told the woman that was passive aggressive to me, that’s not okay and it’s not kind and I was respectful- she kept on doing her tasks not acknowledging while I spoke and then stopped to say - “ you are the only one that COMPLAINS” about that. What a word she chose, my feedback and concern for the quality and cleanliness of my food was a complaint when I thought I was just giving my feedback to help the mindfulness of the staff.
Because of this situation, I won’t return here. The interaction didn’t rub me the right way and more importantly she left early and didn’t feel the need to apologize or rectify the situation she just avoided me. I know we are all human and not perfect and emotions can get the best of us but honestly I don’t feel in my spirit I should return there. The ladies do a wonderful job and I am sorry to share this review but if it was handled better I wouldn’t be here. I do believe she needs to...
Read moreI’ve been coming here for 7 years (back when it was run by an all male staff, which has since been replaced by an all female staff) and I have mixed feelings about the place. I love that it gives me vegetarian options (I am not strictly vegetarian but love my fruits and veggies), has good teas and coffees, like the general ambience and the food is pretty decent...
That being said, it’s not a perfect place, and could work on a few things. Firstly, even though they redecorated in between staff switches, it seems no one has ever cleaned the blue painted wicker chairs. A few times I have sat in them, rested my arm or hand on the wicker and it has left a sticky residue on my skin. So while I will dine in there, I refuse to sit in the back half of the restaurant where those wicker chairs are, and sit on the benches instead. A simple fix would be to at least repaint the chairs to give a clean surface to the wicker.
Also, while the menu is good, the one thing they should add is side dishes. There have been times where I have felt particularly hungry and know that the dish I’m ordering is not quite enough - but to order an additional entree is simply too much. A side dish would have been perfect in these instances, but there are none on the menu.
And lastly, the temperature of their juices is room temperature. While the flavor combinations are quite good, it is really weird to drink them tepid. It would help if the vegetables were cold to begin with, but I suppose they are keeping everything out of the fridge. I realize I could ask for ice but it would then water down my drink.
I will still frequent the place from time to time but I wish they would fix these few things - I would come a lot more...
Read moreStopped by The Panorama of My Silence-Heart on a Saturday afternoon around 2pm and there was plenty of street parking down the blocks. The cafe offers a variety of drinks (coffee, teas, juices, smoothies), breakfast (eggs, oatmeal, porridge, granolas), and lunch items (sandwiches, salads).
Since I had already eaten before coming, I ordered their Thai iced tea ($3.95), which was very very creamy compared to what I'm used to, but milk tastes good. All of the drinks made were filled up to the brim of the glass, and they're brought over to your table by the tranquil ladies working there.
The interior of Panorama is not your typical cafe - the decor is bright and colorful, and the ambience inside is peaceful and soothing, which makes for a nice place to relax and catch up on work. The music is so zen and calming. There are plenty of seats, enough outlets, and fast wifi. This is a nice cafe for the Briarwood...
