What I recommend for breakfast: Eggs benedict + coffee
Lunch; Turkey avocado wrap.
Always try seasonal specials here.
I am a local so below is based on at least 5 meals per month and attempt to eliminate bias.
As you have read, this is all meatless food. The diner is run on an ideology of peace and tranquility and you feel that immediately and throughout—you tend to feel relaxed and satisfied . The atmosphere is light and friendly. Tall booths mean intimate enclosures for friends and family to chat easily. It is well decorated and clean and improvements to the condition of the diner are made regularly—there isn't a single unattractive view in the whole place. This is a calm environment and conversations are easy to have, and, chatting it up with staff is welcomed and enjoyable. This is a very casual diner setting, so if you are looking for cloth-napkin treatment, adjust your expectations. Clientele is a real mix of working class, spiritual, Boho Hippie, and college kids, and especially locals of all backgrounds.
If you're looking for a sample of the diversity of NYC, add this to your list.
Weekends are busy, so get here at opening or be prepared to wait 10 to 15 minutes (but no more than 15 mins usually)
The quality of the food is consistently above average. Adventurous eaters will enjoy most options and may be impressed with how easily you forget you're at a vegetarian restaurant. Menu Options can be easily adjusted for picky eaters and kids. It may require several visits to enjoy the variety of the menu. For example, at breakfast you may not order one of their fantastic blended drinks or pancakes if you go for standard savory items, but you really deserve to try these items at least once. Coffee here is not typical diner coffee—it's tasty and refreshing but it will kick your butt so be prepared for caffeine-induced x-ray vision.
Service is very fast, about 10 -15 mins on average, even when they're busy. They accept cash, credit, debit.
Family of 4 can leave satisfied around the $50 mark but expect $60 - $70 to absolutely stuff 4 adults.
Located on a busy Parsons Blvd hill, can be a challenge for some drivers. Neighborhood looks and feels safe if not a little gritty. Parking is limited along Parsons, I suggest parking along Normal Rd. for added peace of mind.
There are a few shops within the blue strip of buildings shared with this diner which can be fun post-meal exploration. In all you spend 30 - 45 mins here with usual service, add another hour for hanging out and checking...
Read moreLet me tell you a bit about my visit here: Whoever the skinny white guy was at the front needs better hospitality training. I was waiting a good 2 mins in front of him as he determined that sorting the day's mail was more important than greeting me and offering a menu (had to ask for one) Despite informing the visitor AFTER me about when his take out was ready, I waited 10 mins looking at what I suspected was my meal (ready before the visitor before me) before I had to ask the same guy whether it was mine. Meal was mad cool by the time I got to try it. Not my direct experience, but while I was there another gentleman at a table had to send his burrito back because it had basically exploded before it arrived at the table. "This is what I ordered but it's messy." The takeout container effectively started melting 10 mins into my return trip. I ordered a meal that came with toast. I was asked whether I wanted whole wheat toast. Do any of you see toast in this picture? The tofu scramble (yup, that's tofu scramble) is as unseasoned as it looks. I'm floored. Pancake was aight. Recommending a hard avoid on this spot. I was excited for some vegan diner food. This was a whole other edible, but...
Read moreI found myself in Jamaica Queens while running an errand on Sunday morning when I stumbled upon this cozy and quaint vegan breakfast spot. I have been a plant based eater for over five years now, and vegetarian/vegan restaurants are sadly few and far between in Queens- so of course I HAD to try it!
After taking a glance at their extensive and delicious sounding menu, I ended up ordering some vegan pancakes deluxe (pancakes topped with walnuts, banana, strawberries, adorable mini blueberries and a side of real maple syrup), as well as the tofu scramble with veggies and hash browns seasoned with Italian seasoning and a side of sourdough toast.
Everything was colorful, fresh, and bursting with flavor. For $20, the value was incredible and the portion was huge and filling. (See my photo!) This was hands down one of the best breakfasts I’ve had in months !
The dining room is closed right now due to Covid 19 but I hope to eat some brunch here with family and friends in the future. The interior is just adorable! The workers here were very friendly as well. Will definitely be back for more.
PS I wish you guys were on Uber eats for delivery !! That...
