So I grew up eating Tony’s pizza. Been a huge fan since the very EARLY 80’s!!! My aunt lived across the street above the furniture store from 1978 to 1996!!! :::hint hint::: so Tony’s was it for me after school. Moving away from Bushwick I knew I would never find an authentic old school Italian Pizzaria like this. I’ve lived just about everywhere in the USA! I have indulged in great pizza during my business travels but always felt the pizza’s fell short. I returned a few times to Tony’s (sometimes driving 2 hrs for just a slice!) and I have to tell you the pizza there never changes! Recently, I visited Tony’s pizzaria and realized it was under new management. :Lmao ya can’t fool me!: I met George the new owner and didn’t tell him about my experience with this place, this was my home! Every day after school and weekends! My very small skinny petite figure could take down any amount of Sicilian or slice you threw at me! So I continued to order thinking it was going to be different, I ventured anyway. When the pizza came out it was EXACTLY how I remembered!!! A huge slice, hot, sweet, tangy, cheesy and the crust was perfectly crispy!!!!! It was like having old man Tone make it himself! When I got up to order my third slice one of the guys behind the counter laughed and asked me where I was going to fit it. “Don’t worry just give me my slice!” I was really trying to find something off, some inconsistencies but I couldn’t! I couldn’t find anything different with the pizza!!!! I drove an hour for those slices! You better believe I was getting my mileage worth! Lmao! Thank you so much for not changing the recipe! Keep...
Read moreWho the F is Orazio, for real? Tony’s Pizzeria is a Bushwick Landmark and forever will be. Whether you move out of the neighborhood Tony’s Pizzeria is always on your mind. I believe they had about two fires and they still come back. Tony’s didn't evacuate the area when other Italians moved out from the neighborhood when non Italians moved in in the early 80’s. Thank you Tony’s Pizzeria for great Italian Pizza. There just doesn't seem to be many Pizza shops in NYC run by Italians but I hope that's still true today for Tony’s. If there's issues today with the Pizza then I know why there are no Italians making it and maybe the new people don't really put effort into making a quality pizza are quality...
Read moreStopped by early Friday evening for a regular slice. Neighborhood pizza shop where I’ve gotten a decent NYC-style slice in the past. Service was good and fast, the staff friendly. A good-sized slice for $3.25. The pizza, itself? Unacceptable. I can’t even figure out precisely what was wrong with it. Was the oven temperature too high, resulting in a crispy crust but a not-right gooeyness inside? Was it the ridiculously high cheese-to-dough ratio? Was it the cheese itself, the texture as if somebody cut mozzarella with Kraft singles? Dunno. It even felt weird on my teeth. I’ve eaten a lot of slices in my 41 years (32 of them as a New Yorker), and all I know is I wish I could...
