So let me start by saying that I prefer to keep the dollars circulating within the community but 2023 is going to be different. I am OVER these caribbean restaurants that give you shoddy service and make no concessions or try to work with anybody. I think that this place has consistently gone down in service over the last 2 to 3 years but still I gave them a chance. I am done with this place. West indian restaurants always behave as if they're doing YOU a favor. Umm I can keep my money in my wallet if these unprofessional practices continue to be the norm . The food quality and consistency has declined. Customer service is lacking to the point where you are more likely to cuss out the employees than order something.. it is THAT bad. I will no longer recommend this establishment as the place to get authentic trini food in Brooklyn. Better you book a flight and get the food fresh and tasty without the headache. Waste of time to go here in 2022 or 2023!
Update I decided to give them ONE last chance in Januuary 2024. Hey! Same ole same ole! I bought 2 pieces of macaroni pie and those are the SMALLEST pieces of macaroni pie I've seen in years and they went up in price yet smaller in size they were also not cheesy, it felt like it wad old food from the day before due to the mouthfeel. You know when macaroni pie is fresh out the oven and whether it was reheated. Why were those pieces of pie, each 4 dollars? And I measured them with my finger to show how small they were . 2 pieces fit comfortably in the small foil container when before 1 would fit! Hmm .. papayo The callalloo was ok. Not super flavorful but I was glad it wasn't spicy. It bothers me to have to give up on my local restaurants but I can't reward shoddy service and products. Maybe 2025 things might change? Who knows. . One good thing I can say about them they don't give you cabbage in the roti like the rest of these NYC roti shops... most bizarre thing ever. Who came up with...
Read moreIt's a shame when you constantly go out of your way to support small businesses and restaurants in effort to keep the Caribbean community you love so much alive, as it's already becoming gentrified before our eyes to only be treated like you're a bother lol. Like some have stated, the people in there acting like they're doing you a favor, very miserable and ungrateful. I nicely asked what are the prices for the drinks since I did not see any prices listed anywhere and you woulda thought I asked someone for their kidney lol. I was stared at for 30 seconds, finally rudely given an answer, I felt like I was in the twilight zone the way the whole room changed when I fixed my lips to ask a simple question lol. Even the woman next to me said something bc she was thrown off by their response. I would understand some attitude maybe if the place was packed and under a lot of pressure but it wasn't and usually never is. Like I said, I'm Caribbean, I love my Caribbean food and community but there's so many other places with better food and customer service. Also, this place almost never got doubles available, bake is decent, but definitely not worth the attitude. If you do end up going I warn you to not ask the prices for anything or they'll become very offended for...

A week ago, I had Guyanese-Chinese food and I wanted to see how Trinidad-style Chinese food would be different. After all, Guyana (in South America) and the island of Trinidad are both Caribbean and right next to eachother on the map
Truth is that the components taste the same (the lo-mein and chicken wings), but it’s the sauces they use that are different. I asked for extra spicy chicken lo-mein and the lady behind the counter cooked the lo-mein with a traditional yellow chili sauce that was “only found in the jungles of Trinidad”. It was a mix of different chilis and mango. Yup - imagine your lo-mein being taken to the next level.
The difference between Caribbean-Chinese style Lo-mein and American style Lo-Mein is that the caribbean style has an extra layer of sweetness to it and after adding the caribbean spicy sauce, they really scream caribbean noodles. If you’re ever craving Chinese take-out, come here and try it out.
Complemented w/imported Carib beer, which hit the spot to balance out the spiciness
