I'm starting to feel each time I walk around Flatbush I'm unconsciously looking to immerse myself in my Caribbean roots. Today was no different.
I walked into Caribbean Vibes restaurant and felt at home even though I'm not Jamaican. I wanted a soup and instead of their cowheel soup of the day (Tuesday), I went ahead and asked for their pigtail soup. The cashier laughed and explained it was stew peas usually served with a carb. I negotiated and got MY soup. WIN.
Homestyle seasoning was accomplished flawlessly. Even thought I cannot stand spicy food I was able to tolerate their hint of hot spice. THIS IS WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT. And this is an extremely powerful compliment from someone who doesn't even like black pepper.
Food shouldn't be so filled with pepper burning my tongue and blistering my mouth to be considered flavourful. Let the other yummy ingredients shine man! (Yeah, stop with the no way she's a Trinbagonian jokes. I've heard them all). I grew up in a house with a mummy making REAL PEPPER SAUCE, NOT hot sauce. So real that at times tears would literally fall from my eyes when she made pepper sauce using the mother in law/ scorpion pepper. So stop the jokes, stop eet!
My small "soup" packed like a large was soooooo guuud! Everything including peas, steamed dumplings and meat (chicken foot (what a surprise) and pigtail) was so soft that when I bit into my meat I went straight through and the bone crumbled.
Staff was so nice. Very very pleasant. ALL OF THEM.
I LOVE US SO MUCH.

Read moreI like to keep the money within the community but time and time again I run into the same issues- sloppily presented food, bad customer service and the food taste could be improved.
Let me say it clearly. Caribbean vibes could NEVER get my money again. Ever. The food quality has declined so low over the years that they're basically takeout food for your pets. I ordered stewed chicken, veggie pasta, potato salad from them. Hey, the food was definitely not made with love or by anybody who can actually cook! The chicken tough tough and stringy like left over Chinese food gets the next day (you know what I talking about), the potato salad white white and SALTY, I had to spit it out and throw it away because it tasted almost spoilt. Salt was high enough to rival the dead sea. The stewed chicken was literally just stewed chicken with one or 2 sad pieces of bell pepper. No flavor no potato. Nothing. And to add insult to injury, how do you sell VEGGIE pasta but it's got TUNA in it????? And on top of that, they wrapped the pasta in... FOIL. If that isn't the most ghetto thing ever, I don't know what is. It was enough pasta to fill one of those little clear round plastic bowls but no, they thought foil was the way to go. Like I said. Never ever again....
Read moreVery bad customer service, rude, obnoxious worker. I will never return to that establishment. This restaurant is very near to my home, the food is tasty but when you get home it’s never what you want. This is the third time (3) time I have ordered beef soup on a Saturday at lunch, my usual order large beef soup no dumpling ( they never have veggies in the soup anyway) but it’s tasty and this is the third time I’ve gotten soup full of dumplings without meat. (. I’m not a vegetarian). This time I’ve decided to call them on it and not give it away. The young woman who answered the phone rudely answered “ that’s what we have and that’s what you get”. Well, I don’t want what you have, therefore I can take my money and my peace of mind elsewhere. Here I am thinking I’ll support local and my people but HELL NO! You guys are not the only eatery in the neighborhood. NOTE TO MANAGER/OWNER.
I know quite a bit about Hospitality Management, I also believe that not every-time the customer is right but the most important thing a customer can bring is business. Can you put aside some time to work with your staff about their conduct and what a customer orders is that which the...
