If you’re like me and wanna be productive, I head to a Cafe! & one of my favorites that I find myself at is LIPS! . . The decor is cozy; decorated by their merchandise, and black artwork/literature. Some noticeable pieces are: Artwork by @pstudios_, “Black Boy Fly” By @joshuarenfroe_, pieces by @theattieproject, and even Jean Michael Basquiat. You can easily get your coffee and end up staying here for HOURS (like me). .. . It is a decent size inside, but it can get packed quickly. There is wifi which works pretty well most of the time, sometimes I found the Wifi to occasionally drop, but refreshing would always help. The music is always low and very laid back. Lips isn’t our typical cafe, they serve breakfast pastries and lunch/dinner entrees, and also they have a bar! I always start with an iced vanilla latte with oat milk, and either a Rasta Pasta Dish or a Wrap. I recently had their passionfruit lemonade and it is so good! It’s about 50/50 in which the service will be delayed, however, if it does take long, someone has always updated me. If I’m drinking, I’ll end up with a Yellow Lip (which is good). I even had a pound cake for dessert one day, and they warmed it up for me…. (I almost collapsed because it was so tasty). Everyone is always attentive and will make you feel at home. You can even catch the owners in there as well, and it's Black Owned !! . . Lips is a unique space, so I recommend it for: getting work done, (It's open late, which is a plus because not many cafes are open late) grabbing drinks with friends, or having a casual date. They even host an array of events, from art exhibitions to networking...
Read moreI heard quite the buzz about the cutest new cafe in Brooklyn before arriving. A friend recommended this spot to grab a bite and hang for a work session. First thing I noticed were the large beautiful lips on the walls, hence the name. Followed by the smells of all sorts of deliciousness. I'm not a coffee drinker so I went with the recommendation of the barista - Pineapple Ginger juice. WOW, y'all talk about refreshing, my goodness! Totally didn't think it was going to be as good as it was. I drank it much faster than my usual casual drinking pace. My friend ordered a mozzarella and ham panini and I ordered a salmon panini. Hands down mine was definitely better than hers but they were both literally 10/10! The paninis were just the right amount of crunchy and crispy with a light olive oil drizzle on top. They were a decent size and full, not like those skimpy ones you're used to getting at other places. The salmon was so good, I mean really I was eating it slower than usual just so it would last longer. I've never had a salmon panini before and I'm glad this was my first one. The smell of salmon infused the entire cafe, which I was slightly embarrassed about for a split second. Then I got my dish and that feeling quickly went out the window. The family that owns this establishment were so friendly, attentive and helpful. I really felt like this place belongs in Brooklyn and can become a staple in the neighborhood. Oh I also got a punch card but my friend was 7 punch holes ahead of me already. She loves this place, it's her go to cafe.
Check this place out as soon as you...
Read moreLips Cafe is a great restaurant. The food that I've had is excellent, the service is great, the decor is lovely, and everyone there seems to be having a good time. Lots of customers do work from their laptops, and I have a couple times but I wasn't able to focus much without my noise canceling headphones because of the conversations happening around me. Not a big deal to me but I wanted to point that out. It's a great spot to meet nice and friendly people and enjoy a cool and chill vibe. The salmon wrap is my favorite (and I always eat it so fast before I take a picture). It has that perfect combination of spice, heat, tang, and sweet that they have mastered. I will say one star is deducted because it's very expensive for the portion size in my opinion. Many of what I've ordered is expensive (note I didn't say overpriced). I've worked at Herald Sq and Times Sq and dining around those areas for similar types of restaurants for similar menu items haven't been that expensive in my experience. That being said, they are free to charge what they want to and be justified in that decision. It just means that visiting this Cafe is less of a frequent visit for me and more of a treat to myself...
