Afrika House — Attraction in New York

The BIGGEST SCAMMERS around RUN fast. I was looking for a very spacious location that didn't require much decorations for my girlfriend and I 1st baby shower, we visited Afrika House (Scammer House) and felt this was the place. We settled for the upstairs room which seats 250 people and paid $2600 yes a bit pricey but it's our 1st and wanted our guest to be comfortable, placed $1000 down to secure the date November 18th 2017. Before placing a deposit we were promised 3 security guards would be given to us, we didn't need security but hey it's free why not, we were offered unlimited ice from the venue all night for $100, yes ICE! we declined their ice since 5 huge bag of ice from BJs at $3 each would be smarter and cost efficient. Now the date we placed the $1000 deposit, thank God i read the contract the guy tried to charge us an additional $500 for the 3 security guards, I'm like hey you promised for $2600 that's free he replies oh yeah i forgot, I'm saying to myself yeah right. He also offered the unlimited ice for $100 again and again i declined and informed him i would be bringing my own ice. Fast forward we visited Scammer House a few times to see how we would prepare and set up the room for a guest of 120 i expressed to management i wouldn't need all the tables and chairs they had and we were told no problem we can place the extra chairs and tables in the back. A few days before the shower we visited scammer house to pay our remaining balance of $1600 with the "assistant manager" she informs us the guy who initially did our contract messed up, i ask how well he didn't take a $400 deposit fee which would be returned back to us after the shower #2 we can't bring our own ice as if she had a choice she gave us unlimited ice for free after a brief heated discussion. The day of the shower we began setting up to hear a man wearing a security shirt yelling at us we didn't have permission to move the chairs and tables from there assigned placements, so for $2600 you're telling me i can't place the tables and chairs where i want after management told me us we can after some heated words i went to management office you complain about their security staff on how unprofessional he is and we are being harassed and had limited time to set up before our guest arrived, assistant manager now tells me after recieving my money that the owner doesn't allow tables and chairs to be moved around of course this is unacceptable to us and after expressing how this is bad business we were told we can move the tables moments later sane security guard came back harassing us again with a nasty attitude telling us he spoke to the owner and chairs and table has to go back to how they were, after a big fall out i demanded management to come up and rectify the situation they began telling us bogus excuses that the city doesn't allow the tables and chairs to be moved which is a flat out lie because after me informing them with facts we were allowed to place the chairs and tables how we wanted all this was cutting into our set up time which caused us to go into our event time and guest began to arrive as we were setting up. I left after setting up to pick up my girlfriend, we get back and Scamner house is charging our guest that traveled from California, Washington D.C., Boston and Canada a MANDATORY COAT CHECK no where in our contract did they say mandatory coat check and never were we told after paying $2600 our guest would be charged a coat check. Run from scamner house take your money elsewhere i didn't get the service i paid for completely...

I can not express enough my disappointment in the egregious and unethical manner in which you abruptly cancelled a Memorial scheduled weeks in advance at your banquet hall.

September 27th my Memorial was scheduled with invited guest and invitations made and sent out weeks in advance. However on the night of the 26th I was contacted and was told some dubious claims of the local police precinct suddenly imposed a new health directive that banquet halls must temporarily effective immediately. I was told that I would be given paperwork to prove such claim. However, it was nothing more than  morally egregious lie and disservice.

The symbolic proprietary gesture of returning my money  do not absolve you of the daily responsibility of doing business in a fair and equitable manner. I literally was afforded no opportunity to find another venue and or make arrangments overnight.

Losing a love one was unbeatable, yet this experience of not given the opportunity to grief and bring closure among a small group of family and loved ones adds further sorrow during this time.

I  could not remain silent on this matter. My silence would have  been conceived as  endorsement to your complicity of this plausible...

Worse place ever don’t recommend you wasting so much money. First of all the securities were so mean and rude they wouldn’t let us come in a bit early to fix the place up in the second floor. Everyone had to pay 2 dollars for their coat and even if they didn’t want to they still had to give their coat even some little kids had to turn in their coats when they didn’t want. The bathrooms are not clean and there’s no soap in the bathroom. They wouldn’t let us move some things around in the place.
