3.5 This place touts itself as the "#1 korean fried chicken by NYTimes". As a fan of fried chicken, I cannot resist paying a visit. Decor The exterior is rather unassuming; I almost walked past it if I didn't check google maps before coming. The interior decoration is hip; it is reminiscent of the places in east village. The wall is custom painted; there is witty custom writing on the back rest of the seats. Basically, the ambients are excellent. Beer The first thing I noticed is the giant chalkboard with ~11 types of beers. They sell pint, 32oz, and 64oz. The 32oz cost is generally in the teens and the 64oz is generally $20. They also sell glasses in pint, as well as 32/64oz glass growlers. They also sell plastic "recyclable" growlers. Growlers are around $5-6. On the wall next to the counter there is also a shelf of bottles of beer on display. Again, this feels like a east village place. Food Having been introduced to the fried chicken sandwich in Fuku in east village, I have been trying to find out if other places have sandwiches of similar quality. Unfortunately, I have to say that the fried chicken sandwich at this place is pretty mediocre. There's the option to add cheese and bacon for extra cost, which, as far as ingredients go, is unnecessary for one to savor the chicken, if the chicken is good. They also put lettuce and tomato in the burger as vegetable/condiments, which is about as creative as...every other place that sell burger. The burger is also very thick due to the lettuce + tomato + fried chicken patty folding on itself one or two times, making it rather hard to chow down. The fried chicken patty is rather dry (overfried), too thin to retain juice, and feels too salty. It does not have the layered crunchy texture one would expect from an expertly fried piece, nor was it juicy. Basically, I did not feel much texture with my tongue, not much crunch with my teeth, and it just felt a bit awful. I checked the menu and it appears that there are more fried chicken in the form of wings and drumsticks. So perhaps that is their specialty? I might have to come back and try those. But, so far, I am not very impressed.

Small area that sells alot! We usually come here exclusively for the craft beers and the chicken, but you can find many a different things in their menu. The restaurant itself is small but they make up for it with their bar downstairs, which is larger. It's also where the restrooms are. Ordering here was pretty easy. Equipped in every table is a device where you can ask for the bill, water, and more food. Although at the time, it looked like there were only 2 servers, they seemed slow to respond, but not to the point of just going to them. We started with an order of sweet potato fries, and ended up ordering 3 more through the course of our meal. No regrets, especially when paired with their honey mustard sauce. We paired our X-Large 30-piece half and half soy garlic and hot wings with a large beer fountain that was filled to the brim with a mixture of beer and soju which was very good. They had more flavors to choose from, but these are my personal favorites. I would highly recommend it, especially for groups. They have a large rotating selection of craft beer that you can also take home with you. If you're unsure of what to order, you can try with their beer sampler where you can pick 5 smaller beers. The wings are great! They are slightly expensive but understanding the process of making Korean fried chicken, it's worth it. Beer and company goes great here too.

AWFUL!! DO NOT GO!! A, VIOLENT; &, DANGEROUS PLACE! Some Pros: Can get only some orders w/: no VERY BAD contents, like: peppers; onions; garlics; chilis; hot spices; cilantros; mints; &, pots of warm tea, w/out: sugar; &, milk! MOSTLY, a, takeout joint: where people; &, drivers, picking up; crowd all tables; roam back & forth in the tiny; BADly set up; &, designed eating space; wait staff barely visits for finding out any table's needs; &, are located "miles" away from the tables; back area, near counter, is way too bright; back area near door, is too dark, cold; &, dangerous. I used to go here all the time before the pandemic and the food was really good and so was the general atmosphere. But I went again after a years-long hiatus only to find the place to be somewhat different, and not for the better. It feels like management changed because the standards simply aren’t what they once were. They used to serve pretty big pieces of chicken, but they’re much smaller now. The wings are probably 2/3 of the size they used to be, which is disappointing. I used to get full off a small order of 6 wings but found myself still hungry for more. The flavor is definitely still there, but the portion size left me wanting more. The fries are also now shoestring instead of thick-cut, and there’s hardly a difference between small and large fries. Something else that bugged me was that I asked for all drums and they end up giving me a single flat for some reason. It was 5 pm and we were the only customers inside, there is no way they ran out of drums 4 hours prior to closing.

Something else that bugged me was that the tables used to have call buttons — they had buttons on each table that would call the waiter or give you water. Those are all gone now for some reason. And to top it off, the water was warm.

Another thing that really bugged me is the garbage smell from the downstairs area that seeps into the restaurant when the wind blows. You have to go downstairs and cross a smelly area swarming with flies to use the bathroom, which is located on the ground floor. It was very unpleasant to smell garbage every few minutes. That area needs to be cleaned ASAP.

Overall the food still tastes good, but it’s nowhere near the value it once was and the little things, like the call buttons and lack of bad odors,...
