Van Leeuwen Ice Cream — Restaurant in New York

OMG - I'm not sure that I have the words to describe how delectable their ice cream is! To start, a friend insisted that we take a short cab ride to Van Leeuwen just for the ice cream when there were other ice cream parlors closer. He only eats vegan ice cream and he told us that this vegan ice cream was better than dairy ice cream. He was completely right! Apparently they use coconut cream to provide the luscious, creamy texture. We arrived to find a line in the store and out the door to the corner at about 11:15 on a Friday evening in April. I didn't want to wait in the line, but I sure am glad that I did! When we got to the front of the line our friend told us to try some samples to help decide - I was concerned about taking their staff's time with samples when there was a big line of people waiting behind us, but he said that's how it works there. The staff was only to happy to provide samples and even suggested that we try some ridiculous bon bon special ice cream - ridiculously good! Let me start off by saying that I love Van Leeuwens. I am often in the area, and have been to this location multiple times. The ice cream flavor varieties are incredible (I love the honeycomb and earl grey in particular).

Unfortunately, the last time I was here I had a pretty bad experience. We showed up 10 minutes before close, and waited outside the door due to the line. We got inside 5 minutes until close with about 4 people in front of us. When we got to the front of the line with 1 minute to close, the woman serving ice cream - Ayla - said that she couldn’t serve us because they were closed. She was incredibly rude to us and the 3 groups behind us. I understand wanting to close on time and have worked customer service / retail / restaurant jobs, and there is a way to do this appropriately (ex. when you enter after a certain time you are informed you won’t be served, telling the line “this is my last customer” when they enter, etc.) and it was much less the action than the server’s rude and...

Was starving for vegan ice cream and found this near me ... This little location was packed of loudy peoples sharing one ice cream for 4... I decided to order to go I had the simplest ones as I always have everywhere. Choco / coffee / toffee swirl The service was great , the server very busy take time to explain and smile that’s the good part .

Once I tasted I barely feel the chocolate behind the sugar ... omg this ice cream was only sugar too sweet and not good at all .

I never trust regular places when they try to go vegan it’s just for money and since they don’t understand because they don’t eat vegan ice cream ... they just don’t care and that’s the problem .
