I’ve held back quite a while for this review because it’s a hidden gem. But I cannot contain my love for this place any longer. Varsi’s is amazing. The staff are friendly, owner is great and best of all, their food is fantastic. I’ve been coming to this place 3-4 times a week for nearly 4 years and I’ve never seen the store empty. Products move quickly and are always fresh. I’ve always said, there’s 10,000 places to get a sandwich in NYC. What differentiates this place from others is their bread! It really makes the sandwich. Their semolina bread is so good. Any sandwich on that bread is worth any wait they may have. Some other amazing offerings are their chicken cutlet, stuffed peppers, potato salad, dried/fresh sausage, their meatballs(I believe only served on Thursdays), Roast pork (also a special once a week). I could go on and on. Everything I’ve tried there is fantastic which brings me to why I’ve decided to write this review. They’ve recently added a new item to the menu. When I tell you that this chicken sandwich beats Chick-Fil-A, I sincerely mean it. It’s called the Chick-A-Varsi. Hands down my favorite chicken sandwich to date. I’m so fortunate to have this chicken sandwich so close to where I work but I would drive an hour or more for it! It’s that good. And for $7, it feels like you’re getting it for a steal. The chicken is perfectly juicy. All the components work together so well and it’s crafted to perfection. The sauce they use with the sandwich really takes it over the top. If you are within an hour from this place, drop everything you’re doing and go get one NOW! To conclude, I can’t speak highly enough about this place. Shout out to Mario, Georgie, James and Dino. Keep up the good...
Read moreDuring the work week you tend to go to the same 5 or 6 places when you only get 30 mins to eat lunch. You end up hating those 5-6 places. So on that day you are finally fed up with the same places, you decide to venture out. Most of the time its something lame: a Subway or a Panera Bread. But once in a blue moon you decide to give a different deli a shot.
That brings me to Varsi Deli. After a coworker stumbled upon it, I decided to give it a try. The deli itself is very old school Italian. Meat hanging from the ceiling and fresh homemade goodies all over the place. They have a special sandwich selection so I decided on the Three C's. Chicken, Cheddar, and Chipolte. The chicken cutlet tasted like it was just done. And the chipolte sauce they have was this honey mixture that was so good. If you are in the area, I definitely recommend you stop and get anything in there to eat! I wished I...
Read moreCame here after getting overpriced at benitendis a few blocks away. 100% a better choice. Great sized sandwiches for reasonable prices. 2 sandwiches and a take home lasagna was under 40. The other place changed me 48. But honestly sad to see this place struggle. You can tell by the old decor and vibe. Sucks because this is how these traditional Italian delis fade and go under. Please come here and support this place. Their food quality and pricing is a bargain. And you won't be disappointed. Don't let another mom and pop spot disappear. Top level italian for...
