Be careful with ordering delivery here because you may be gaslighted by the restaurant. We ordered 2 meals to be delivered in Astoria at 12:25 PM with a delivery time of 1:15 PM max with 3 different fees paid for this (delivery, service, and other). We got a call from the restaurant at 1:10 PM informing us that our order was ready for pick up, which we responded with no as we placed this as a delivery as we paid 3 different fees. They responded by saying that the order came to them as a pick up and not delivery so we will have to pick it up, which is a lie and they continued to gaslight us about this. They said that if we do not want to pick it up we will have to call Grubhub for them to schedule a driver to do a pick up, which is a first since the order was already placed as a delivery and a driver should have been assigned once the restaurant confirms that the order was ready for pick up which they never did. They said that this was unfortunately a system error and we will have to contact Grubhub as they cannot do anything, but once I hung up they marked the food a ready and a driver was assigned to pick up the food to have it delivered to us by 2:30 PM so the food would be sitting there for about 1 hour and 20 minutes which is unacceptable since one of the dishes had dairy.
We called Grubhub explained to them what happened and they confirmed that there’s no way that a delivery order with additional fees paid would never arrive to a restaurant as a pick up. They cancelled the order for us as we did not want to eat food that has been ready for an hour and half in fear of food poisoning due to the dairy in the dishes. Horrible delivery experience so be weary if you order from them and there are other reviews here with a...
Read moreTook my family to dinner at Warique this Friday night, I was having a craving for Lomo Saltado and they popped up on google as having a good one. 2 kids, 2 adults we arrived late about 8pm and discovered a small cozy dining room with only about 16 seats. We ordered some cusqueñas some inca kolas, salchipapas for the kids and went right for the ceviche de pescado, followed by the Lomo Saltado and a Jaléa.
Absolutely pleasantly shocked with the flavors coming out of this tiny space, as a hospitality professional I couldnt help but feel the kitchen was on fire and too talented for such minimal seating. A well spiced and balanced ceviche, my only critique was the fish was cut very chunky. The Lomo Saltado had my kids fighting for pieces once they had a taste. The Jaléa is my Ladys favorite and we thoroughly enjoyed the large portion of fried seafood with red onions.
The draft from the front door was a little bothersome on a cold night in NYC but expected as Im sure Warique must be popular for takeout, we witnessed many people walk in and out quickly with takeaway dishes.
Definitely will return and definitely will wait for a seat not in front of the door if its...
Read moreThe staff here is VERY FRIENDLY! They were very attentive. The food taste good but is not authentic to the Peruvian cuisine. We had the papa a la huancaina, it tasted like nacho cheese sauce, I don’t recommend it. We had the pollo a la brasa with salad and maduro. The chicken came out cold, this easily could have been avoided if the temperature was checked before bringing it out. We had the fish with yuca, yellow rice and onions. The rice was old, cold and hard. I recommend the fish alone. We had the sopa seco, it tasted very good but had potatoes (traditionally it does not have potatoes). Lastly we had picarones. They were very heavy too doughy and tasted like a donut. They are suppose to be very light and crispy. I do not recommend this if you have had picarones before. To drink we had chicha morada, it was very watered down and lacked flavor overall. Some chopped apples and a side of lime would have made a big difference. The weekend menu posted with this location is not available anymore but that is not their fault. The place looks new so hopefully they correct their recipes and...
