I'm sure I'm coming from a spoiled Mexican Food point of view since I am from San Diego. Tacos Al Suadero is NOT in the tourist zone, and probably NOT on the map for travelers to NYC, but for a local to the area, it would not be a bad location to get a fine, tasty Mexican meal. It's not exactly hole-in-the-wall walk in and grub, but an actual sit-down full service. Service was friendly and on a Tuesday afternoon there were only a couple customers here.
-=-Chorizo and Egg, Wet Burrito-=- $9.75. I ordered this off the menu as a custom request. The chorizo wasn't oily at all like it is at most places. One thing that was immediately apparent to me was that the chorizo was cooked similarly to a hot dog then diced. I'm used to seeing it squeezed out and fried on a pan. It wasn't too eggy either. The big kicker here is the wet part: smothered in sour cream and parmesan cheese. Yes I had to eat it with a fork, but it was tasty with the green and red salsas.
-=-Horchata-=- It was a bit too milky for my taste. There wasn't a cinnamon powder texture either. Next.
PARKING NOTE: even if you think you found a good parallel parking spot, you must pay a MUNI meter and put the receipt on your dashboard. No posted signs either, so it's stupid and I owe NY $40 bucks now...atleast...
Read moreGoddammit.... I like this place a lot but the service here sucks ass.
Waitress - She puts in the wrong order, I wanted 2 chicken, 2 suadero, 2 pastor. Nope! I end up getting 3 chicken and 3 pastor. Okay, fine whatever maybe she didn't hear me correctly, no biggie.
But when I look at the tacos again, I don't see a single squirt/scoop/pile of guacamole on ANY of my tacos. I've been looking at all of the pictures on Yelp before coming here and I'm pretty sure it comes with it. And so I asked her for some... an innocent "oh, okay" is all I got.
My experience here was bad... but what's worse is knowing the fact that I'll be coming here again (like...
Read moreIt is a trek out here but it's worth the train ride. The tacos which the establishment is named after is worth every single calorie and I would eat them all day if possible. They are quite generous with their fillings and each taco is topped with a smudge of guacamole. There is a nice crust on each nib bit of meat. The service here however leaves a not so nice taste in your mouth. I think the server was having a bad day but I think the tacos might be enough to return despite the service. Remember to ask for the green salsa when they bring you chips. The tomato salsa is funny tasting and not worth trying. The tacos here are...
