A frozen yogurt shop that also happens to be a sushi restaurant is strange enough on paper that you probably wouldn't expect it the sushi to be particularly good.
You would be wrong. Not only do they have excellent sushi, but the prices are pretty damn good.
Personally, I've long had a test to determine just how fresh and good a given restaurant's sushi is that's never steered me wrong. I try the salmon: If it has more of a rich, fatty flavor, then you know you're dealing with high quality sushi. If it has more of a sweet taste, then it may not be BAD, but it's not nearly as good. Shogun Sushi is the former. And everything I've tried there has been excellent.
They're also happy to make brown rice sushi if you'd prefer that. Since vinegar turned into a migraine trigger for me about a decade ago, I can't eat regular sushi rice anymore, so the brown rice option lets me continue to enjoy delicious sushi at places like this.
I don't eat dairy anymore, so I can't personality comment on the frogurt, but when I've gone here with friends, they've always been high on it, the bubble tea, etc.
Great, friendly service, too. The owner always remembers me even when I haven't been there in several months.

Ā Ā Ā Read moreHidden gem. Many may not know that this place serves extremely high quality poke bowls, sushirito, etc, since the casual froyo setting and faded banner sign sort of obscure the expectation. YoFresh/Shogun is a true mom and pop style establishment -- the owner is Always there, and he goes daily to the 4am fresh fish market. The sushi and rolls are gorgeously fresh and caringly prepared by a dedicated sushi chef. As for the froyo, it is also delicious, with a wide array of fresh toppings, hi qual fruits etc. I come here all the time on repeat. The build-your-own sushirito is a miracle of Ridgewood. Ten stars, classic spot, rare mom and pop, fresh fresh fish, dedication to quality and...
