I went here with a group to check out the “new” restaurant. Ambience 4 stars, quality of food 4 star, service 2 stars - only one staff member out front, she has to go to the back to ask about every single thing.... everything! You might as well go to the back yourself and order it would be more efficient. Time spent understanding what your business offers would do good here. Furthermore, I explicitly asked if the jolof rice (“rice”) came with onions, and I was told it did not. As you may have guessed I ended up finding onions in the rice. I let her know I couldn’t eat it and asked her why she told me there were none. Her first response was to tell me she did not tell me such. Which is infuriating as a bold face lie. Then, she said she thought I meant a different type of onion as in the fried rice. Sorry but that was a baffling response, rather than a simple honest apology. So hopefully with time and more experience with what the business offers, service may improve. But seriously, more attention should be paid to specific requests in customer orders, the requests are made for specific reasons which can range from preference - allergies!
Next, I would like to address the pricing. The pricing structure of this business is ludicrous! You will spend less for more dining at a 4/5 star restaurant in Manhattan. You will feel like you have to pay for oxygen. Just a order of goat meat is $8 and you get 3 small pieces of goat meat, $6 for meat pie.... but you are only getting 1 pie, and be weary of making any substitutions on your order. You will be charged the full price of the substitution, not subsidized as a substitution. Which renders the substitution pointless, you will pay more for less. You might as well make a regular order and order the substitution as an addition.
But I must leave this review at this. Because there is just too much to say. If the business owner truly cares about improving they can always respond for dialogue. Hopefully the business does not suffer the fate other african restaurants suffer. You can see they try to be progressive with presentation. But, they have to remember presentation is an ornament. Service is king in this industry.
In sum, I give 2 stars. For presentation and quality of food. There was no complaint about the quality (taste), and that...
Read moreI had high hopes for this African food truck but my expectations was not met. On my lunch break I ordered Jollof rice & whiting fish. It was suggested by the owner ready-to-go, so my wait was not long. The order was $25 no complaints because again high expectations & also African foods are known to be very filling. I get back to work to take a peek of my food & what I saw was a weeks supply of rice in a large square container & in a small separate container the end of a fish & 2 tiny round chucks of the fish end with no sauce aka gravy. I assume the fish was cut up but nothing meaty about it at ALL. The amount of rice given was ridiculous as if he didn’t want to waste the rice later that night so he piled it on. I spent my hard earned $25 to not even get half of a fish yet a whole one. Customer service was very poor! Went back twice to resolve after sharing my complaint. The first visit the owner sent his employee to relay a message saying that, that is the portion & that fish is expensive. The second visit was not pleasant at all. He threw another dry tiny chuck of fish & was dismissive after that. This is why I will not be supporting food truck after this disappointment. I get that prices for food are expensive but if you are in high traffic areas. Expect your meat portion to meet up with the average plate size NOT under. I didn’t bother to ask for my money back because dude was on edge & I knew it wouldn’t end well. I gave my food away to the security in my apartment building. I HAD LOST MY APPETITE DUE TO A VERY...
Read moreService was great. One of the owners who served me was pleasant and attentive. Usually I stick to my usual goat meat and rice entrees at Nigerian restaurants but I am so glad I decided to try the suya tacos. It was the highlight of my meal. It was an explosion of savory, smoky flavors that paired well with cheese, something I never thought would go well with together. Wrapped in a soft plantain taco shell...how dope is that?! I also had moi-moi, which was wrapped in leaves, so no metallic foil taste that usually takes away from the taste. Last I had oha soup and eba. The smoked fish and goat meat in the soup were tender and flavorful. The food is spicy so make sure to order a sweet zobo drink(similar to sorrel), it’s a great to cool it down. Can’t wait to go back and try other cool innovative fusion dishes. That’s what makes this...
