Updated Review 9/12/2024:
The onsite staff, though some faces have changed, remain AMAZING.
HOWEVER, I have reduced the stars due to Urby Management/Corporate lack of crisis planning. On Aug 26, we experienced a power outage and flash flooding that affected our building and oddly continued to affect the upper 6 floors of 155 Washington. Water was off for a day and has intermittently been brown in color.
Where has management failed?
The communication from the onsite property manager has been abysmal. It's disappointing how Urby has handled this entire situation. I expected better from management.
Original Review from 2023:
I have been a resident at Urby since February of this year. The staff here is absolutely amazing. Every team member has contributed to creating a welcoming environment, from the friendly faces at the front desk (Mehdi, Jennifer, and Aliou - Emily on Wednesdays) to Sarah and Jacques in the leasing office and the outstanding maintenance crew of Howard and Sam. Their professionalism and attentiveness have made my transition to Newark an exceptional experience. Urby offers a wide range of amenities that truly enhance the living experience. The gym, located on the first floor, is my favorite amenity. It is well-equipped and has a room for yoga, Zumba, and strength classes. These fitness classes provide an opportunity to stay fit while engaging with fellow residents who share similar interests. The terrace provides a serene retreat where one can relax, BBQ, and tend to community garden beds. The study spaces and conference rooms offer quiet and comfortable areas for work or important meetings. What truly sets Urby apart is the strong sense of community permeating the building. The residents here are friendly, diverse, and ready to welcome newcomers with open arms. Whether participating in community gatherings or attending organized events, there are ample opportunities to connect with neighbors and forge meaningful friendships. The inclusive atmosphere and the genuine camaraderie among residents have made me feel like I am part of a close-knit family. If you're looking for a place to live in Newark. I highly recommend moving here. Mehdi, Jennifer, Aliou, Sarah, Jacques, Howard, and Sam, have gone above and beyond to ensure a positive living experience for me. The gym, rooftop hangout, chill study spots, and fitness classes make life more convenient. Plus, the friendly staff make Urby feel like the perfect place to kick back...
Read moreI find it interesting how suddenly, after people have posted about their experiences, there seems to be an aligned effort to downplay those voices by people who were not even affected by what happened. I recently read a number of reviews that refer to us being offered assistance with food storage, reimbursement, etc. As someone who went through a terrible experience...none of that is accurate. And to be accused of colluding to post negative reviews when it appears that the "counter attack" is very well coordinated is not only inaccurate but offensive. For those wondering why I don't just leave... I tried but the multimillion dollar corporation that owns this building will continue to hold me accountable for every dollar between now and the end of my lease. If you are at all concerned with how you will be treated once you sign a lease, do yourself a service and make sure you are protected in case anything like this happens.
Kinjo was a great experience, the food was delicious and costs were comparable. It's funny that a few people posting recent reviews are all asking the same references and yet those of us who were actually harmed are only referring to our experiences.
Trust me, I look forward to the first day I can toss them the remainder of my money and go running from this building. Because, #1...I don't want neighbors like this. If you have something to share, feel free to find me in the dog park.
A great place to live. My one bedroom is cozy but filled with amenities! I truly enjoy being âat homeâ. The outside patio area is nicely done and my puppy loves the dog run. The Urby staff is so friendly and helpful. Hoping to stay here for a long while!
UPDATE: over the past few days Iâve been extremely disappointed with the lack of communication on the ongoing power outage. While I have no ill towards the staff and crew, management and their decision making in a crisis leave a LOT to be desired. The level of concern over not accommodating residents should be secondary. The cost of compensating us could easily be recouped by doing right by the residents, making us feel whole, and generating loyal tenants. But what do I know, I only spent my career helping corporations communicate to employees.
Beyond that, I do still enjoy the amenities of the dog park and my apartment. The front desk staff and the technicians are all amazing!!!
UPDATE TO MY UPDATE: It took six days for them to resolve the power outage with very little communication until the residents started complaining. They offered a credit to us after the fact but it did not replace what I put out due to their lack of communication. When I asked for an additional compensation to cover just those expenses, I was given the run-around, asked to supply receipts and photos, only to receive a curt âformâ response from the building manager (I know because it was the exact same wording sent to other residents). If that was the case why even pretend to care and ask me to provide the additional documentation??? Itâs pretty messed up to treat people like that when we are already in an emotional state. Needless to say I confirmed that I will not be renewing my lease and I anticipate quite a few others wonât be either. Itâs just a very sour taste left for me that I likely wonât get over. For the amount I am paying for a 500 sq ft one bedroom, I deserve much more of a concierge experience that I shouldnât even have to ask for!!!
But I do still love the staff thatâs why itâs 2âïž...
Read moreI've been in Newark for 5 years and moved into The Urby earlier this year, hands down the best decision I've made in these past 5 years! As a resident of The Urby, I can confidently say that this building has exceeded my expectations in every way possible. From day 1, I was impressed by its modern design, upscale amenities, and the warm sense of community it fosters. The Urby is truly the perfect blend of luxury and livability.
The amenities at The Urby are nothing short of extraordinary. The fitness center is comparable to any luxury gym I've been to; the rooftop lounge is cozy and spacious with bbq grills and a doggie park for those with furry friends; the conference rooms and shared work spaces are an added bonus for comfortable and convenient living. The building and its amenities are thoughtfully designed to cater to residents' diverse needs and desires.
Above all, what I love most about living here is the exceptional staff that goes above and beyond to ensure residents' comfort and satisfaction. I want to give a special shout-out to Mehdi, Jennifer, Aliou, Sarah, Howie, and David who have played an integral role in making my living experience here truly exceptional.

Beyond the fantastic staff, the community at The Urby is a diverse and friendly bunch. The building fosters a sense of togetherness and community through its regular social events, making it easy to meet new people and build new friendships.
The Urby's location in the heart of Newark is another aspect that I love. With easy access to public transportation, Whole Foods, trendy restaurants, and cultural hotspots, it's the ideal location for anyone looking to experience the vibrant urban lifestyle.
