Drinks good, food bad.
Sadly, even though airports are notoriously overpriced, it shouldn't mean the quality should suffer but it did here.
I ordered the avocado and egg sandwich with a side of bacon. This comes with a side of roasted potatoes. The meal had such potential and I was very hungry. Unfortunately, the business model is not made for food.
What I mean is that to order, you sit at the bar or the tables right around the bar. The bar itself only serves alcohol, clearly their focus. Because the server has to walk about 50 yards down the terminal area to pick up the food. I saw the server ask everyone if they wanted drinks multiple times before rolling her eyes that food was ready (I did not say anything to her about the food, I happened to be sitting near an area where she was conversing with another employee).
When the food arrived, it had clearly been ready for awhile. Potatoes were warm, not hot. The bacon, on a separate plate, was barely warm, and the eggs on the sandwich had cooled off around the edges (the inside of the sandwich was still plenty warm). I'm sure they have great alcoholic drinks but at 10:00am, all I wanted was something breakfasty and unfortunately, they missed the mark here. So if you're looking for an alcoholic drink, this may be a great place for you. If you're only looking for overpriced food, I would look elsewhere, I do...
Read moreDaily is a really cute and modern-feeling sit down restaurant in Airside C at the Newark Airport.
What’s nice is that you sit down, scan the QR code at your table and order right away. You don’t have to wait for a waiter/waitress to come by and all that.
The food is an interesting interpretation of mediterranean style. I got a schwarma wrap that was pretty decent. It’s not the best food I’ve ever had but it tasted pretty good and was a much-needed meal before a long international flight.
I will say the workers gave me a weird vibe which made the whole experience much less great. They would come by occasionally to fill up my water or check in, which is great. But a few of them were standing in the corner of the bar (which is in the middle of the restaurant and I was sitting at the bar) and they were complaining, very indiscreetly, about work and some other management at the airport. Now, I understand there are things that aren’t great at every job and I don’t mind people ranting about it, but there’s a time and place. They could’ve and should’ve had that conversation in a more private area instead of out where all the customers were. And they were sitting there complaining instead of actually working, which says a lot about them too. Was just not impressed by this and wouldn’t come back due to the...
Read moreUsually a 5 for EWR Airport, but this trip I am seated at "Daily" around Gate C72, where I normally come because of seating, access to an electrical outlet and free WiFi. I arrived during a slow time, pre-lunch. Plenty of seating and again, not very busy. I scanned my boarding pass, placed an order however, my payment wasn't accepted at the table. I kept swiping and probably needed a chip read vs. a swipe. I am looking and seeing around 4 servers and 4 cooks or 8 team members. The cooks stay cooking, as they should. The servers? One server was re-setting tables and was right next to me. Not a peep. Not even eye contact. No one else came over to me to either ask if I needed anything or commenting that in order for me to remain here, I needed to purchase food or beverage. I am taking up 2 of the 4 seats. Sitting for 15 minutes now. Have we become this automated and lost our human touch? Is customer service either awesome or non-existent? Where’s the middle...
