First timers - very busy place. Normally go to the other BBQ place in town, mainly because we live nearby. It was closed this evening so we thought we'd try Storrs. Upon arriving we were informed they were out of wings & cheesy ?, Being replaced with Mac n cheese my husband and son were pleased. Ordered two brisket sandwiches and two sides of Mac n cheese. Cashier recommended we order the pint instead, more food for less cost. We ordered not just one but ordered a second to take home. I was undecided on which meat to order, brisket it pork, so I ordered the two meats, knowing our other son was at home and would be excited about any leftovers. We grabbed a couple beers and a soda and sat down. After a few minutes, we were informed by the cashier that they didn't have enough Mac n cheese to fill out second side (to take home). They offered to substitute another side or refund. I opted for a refund, knowing nothing could truly substitute Mac n cheese. They were more than happy to give me my money back. When we finally got our food, after approximately 15 minutes (pretty sure they gave our food to someone else - the group that came in after us was eating brisket sandwiches while I was inquiring about the delivery of our order), we found it to be exceptional. We will come back and give them another try, maybe a bit earlier in...
Read moreYou know, it's just OK. I can totally see what they are wanting to do, they just need a few tweaks. You won't have a bad time, but it's not awesome.
Pros: The price is acceptable; not horrible but not great either. The brisket and ribs were flavorful and soft. I liked that pickled green tomato, it was done well.
Cons: Chicken wings were too average for a "smokehouse". I'm sorry, but that coleslaw, it sucks. No zing, no flavor. The containers for the condiments, well, someone butchered the tops. Some of them work well, but the ones cut SUPER short just made a mess. What's the point of that toast? If you made it in house, sorry, I couldn't tell. If you didn't make it in house then you should be, or give them a home baked biscuit instead of a small piece of plain white bread toast. The sauce choices, ok, I get it. Variety is good. The Asian sauce seemed out of place, and the two bbq sauces tasted almost exactly the same. Neither one was spicy. One was sweet and the other was more sweet.
You guys can really rank, you just need to make some small adjustments. Keep up the good...
Read moreOh my. They made a restaurant specifically for me! Was in Newberg just checking the town out and stopped in here on a whim on the way out for a quick lunch. Place was exactly how I would expect a BBQ smokehouse to be. Amazing wood smoke smells and casual interior geared more towards function then formality. Homey. Was in a bit of a hurry so didn't take a long time to consider my options so hurriedly ordered the 1/2 chicken, wife got the brisket sandwich. Oh my. Chicken was amazing and much more then I was expecting at the $13 price tag. I've had BBQ costing much more than this at a fraction of the amount of meat. This was a substantial bird, and both the breast and dark meat was cooked to perfection, no small task, easy to overcook the breast getting dark meat cooked properly. Great seasoning and just the right amount of smoke... can't say enough. I could go on about the sandwich too, but I'll leave that to my wife, but would recommend this highly as well. I plan on visiting here again when I have more time to sample more of their offerings, maybe...
