This was my first time visiting this establishment. The atmosphere was cozy and nice. The service was from behind the counter was decent but not outstanding. It was a slow rainy day, and only 5 customers were there as a group. I ordered a lemon poppyseed muffin, which was a little under baked, but had great flavor. A blueberry muffin, which was terrible! It looked good, but I was expecting real blueberries in it, and that pop you get from them bursting in your mouth when you bite into them! Instead I got tiny blueberries, the size of a dried split pea! They had to be out of a can, like you get in Betty Crocker blueberry muffin mixes! I expected better than this especially for the price I paid! Also, they didn’t have much flavor to them, to make them stand out from the crowd, or make them special! I would pass on those, you can get better ones elsewhere! I also ordered a mini lemon cream Whoopie pie, now that was outstanding! The flavor was fantastic! The ratio of cake and cream was right on track, it was out of this world enjoyable! I would order this again! It was the Best item I purchased on my visit. Oh, I was also given a bag with a hole in it for my items, and they were all thrown in together. I would have put them in a plastic container or box separating them from each other, or at least the whoopie separate from the muffins. It’s the little things of appearances, that make a difference. Overall I rate this place a 3 maybe a 4 if you put in real blueberries and flavor enhancement in that blueberry muffin of yours. I will come back and try something new the next time I’m in town. Kudos for the...
Read moreJulie the owner saw me struggling on the stairs (I didn’t realize there was another entrance) and offered to bring up my order. I thanked her but told her I didn’t know what I wanted, so I would need to look.
When I got to the bottom the formerly empty dining area filled and I didn’t have my walker so I didn’t want to get bumped. I waited. The shop just kept emptying and refilling.
Julie came out of the kitchen a few minutes later and saw me sitting. She asked if I had been helped. I told her I had not. She asked what I wanted and I told her the passionfruit whoopie pie and she rung me up and even gave me an extra.
I felt so seen and cared for, and wanted to leave her a review to let her know how much that meant, but then I also took a bite out of the Whoopie pie and was blown away! This is HANDS DOWN the best whoopie pie I’ve ever tasted! The flavor is rich and deep and the ratio of filling to cake is just right.
Thank you Julie!!! I...
Read moreMy girlfriend and I came to Newburyport from boston for her birthday day trip. We ended up at Chococoa because it looked like the most promising pastry shop in the area and we were right! Amazing atmosphere and unique seating. Great location alongside the bookstore and children’s store. And the food was delicious. We 4 whoopie pies to try (red velvet, some kind of lemony one, a maple one, and an OG). They were all delicious but I think the red velvet and lemon shone for me. We also got a chocolate croissant and cinnamon roll and our server offered to warm them up: right choice, delicious! The cinnamon roll was so good and has that glaze that’s almost lemon like. The croissants dough is apparently flown in frozen from France and then baked in shop everyday. Amazing, fair prices for the quality. Our server was very kind. I would come...
