We went here last night for our anniversary. I'd read good things about it and got recommendations for it from a couple friends.
Well, we are happy we chose this place. Everything was fantastic, from the service to the food, it was perfect.
It's a small place, but we felt like we had plenty of room at our table. But with it being smaller, I'd definitely recommend making reservations.
We started with drinks. Both drinks were delicious. We have the blackberry smash and a margarita. My fiancé doesn't usually drink except for the occasional margarita. But she actually really enjoyed my cocktail as much as her margarita.
Next was our appetizer. We ordered the poutine. The portion size was nice and big. It was loaded with fries, beef, cheese curds, and gravy. Had to force ourselves to stop eating it so we could save room for our entrees, lol.
I decided to try the mushroom soup, since I love mushrooms. It was definitely worth it. My fiancé isn't a huge mushroom fan, but she enjoyed it as well.
Now to the entrees...we had the duck carbonara and the ribeye (w/asparagus and mashed potatoes). Both of these were fantastic. The ribeye was huge. I'd guess it was around 26oz. It was cooked perfectly, flavorful, and tender. The asparagus was thick. It was seasoned and cooked perfectly. I'm not a huge mashed potatoes guy, but my fiancé is and she said the potatoes were really good, "I didn't even need any gravy".
My duck carbonara was equally delicious. The raw egg yolk added the perfect amount of creaminess to the pasta. The duck was perfectly cooked. I loved the crispy bits. It contrasted nicely with the creamy pasta.
We don't typically order dessert but since it was our anniversary and because everything has been so damn good; oh, and the waitress told us "they say our bread pudding is life-changing". So, I said let's do it! I'm so glad I did. The bread pudding is easily one of the best desserts I've ever eaten. My fiancé told the waitress she doesn't really like bread pudding, "it's soggy bread. I'm not really a fan." Well, she loved it as much as I did. We shared one order and devoured it!
All in all, this was the perfect way to celebrate our anniversary. We both love trying new foods/places. I would order every single one of these items again. Everything...
Read moreI'm glad Newnan has a second fine dining eatery. Ever since George closed 10 West Washington only one establishment was left. The Knife and Stone has a good reputation so we were excited about dining there. I ordered the whole Red Snapper which arrived frozen, stone cold, un-edible. I looked for the waiter who was nowhere to be found. It's obligatory for a server to ask within the first couple of bites if the meal is to the guests satisfaction. But not here. Some unknown server slapped the food down and ran. I had to get up from the table, plate in hand, and find our waiter to bring to his attention my fish was raw. He offered to take it back to the kitchen and have the meal prepared properly. But by then it was too late. My trophy girlfriend had received her dinner and wanted to begin eating while her food was hot. I asked they take the charge off the bill and sat staring at the empty spot on the table where my dinner should have been. The side order was asparagus and brussel sprouts. It appeared they slid the vegetables directly from the frying pan on to the plate grease and all. No presentation. By the time I got close to the bottom of the plate the vegetables were swimming in grease. Suggestion, slide fried vegetables onto a cardboard tray for a second or two to absorb any grease before presenting them on a plate. The manager was very gracious and apologetic claiming she didn't know what happened but the whole Red Snapper was supposed to be smoked. She did offer us a complimentary dessert which we had them put in a to-go container (see pic). I must say it was quite delicious! I asked if they had creme brulee - no, espresso - no. My trophy girlfriend loved her scallops. She said they were quite delicious and her dinner was to her satisfaction. I did have one, it actually was tasty. The waiter ultimately redeemed himself by clearing the dirty plates from the table. Nothing pisses me off more than sitting in front of a dirty table when the check comes. I don't like to judge a restaurant on just one experience so we'll give the Knife and Stone one last...
Read moreMeh. I was excited to try this restaurant as I had read good reviews. Unfortunately it didn’t live up to the hype. First of all, they don’t serve tea. What?!? No sweet tea, no unsweetened tea. Just water, soda, and alcohol. Just in case y’all don’t know...sweet tea is the house wine of the south.
As a starter, we ordered the fried goat cheese, which was actually the highlight of the meal. It was amazing and I wish I’d had an entire plate of it served with some sweet tea.
My husband ordered the special which was wild pork tenderloin with a caramel sauce, Brussel sprouts and asparagus. He said it was good, but not amazing. The Brussel sprouts were perfectly cooked, so if that is a reason to go to a restaurant, then this is your place.
I ordered the blackened salmon with a blue cheese sauce. Unfortunately the only choices for green vegetables were asparagus and brussel sprouts which I think is like trying to choose the lesser of two evils. The combination of the blackening seasoning with the blue cheese was entirely too salty (this too could have been remedied with sweet tea). After I consumed all of my water, the owner promised me more, but she never returned.
Speaking of service, this restaurant is noisy. It’s not large, so you can hear every conversation around you. To make matters worse, the owner proceeded to carry on a very loud and lengthy conversation with the large party next to our table about their new restaurant opening. Now this new place sounded like it would be amazing (alas, as long as sweet tea is on the menu), but since her conversation was peppered with foul language I’m not sure I really want to visit. To top off all of this noise, there was music coming from the kitchen, just loud enough to notice but undistinguishable due to the volume of the restaurant itself.
We were offered dessert, but honestly just wanted to get to the sweet shop on the other side of the square to escape the cacophony. For the cost and reviews of this place, we expected better—especially for service...
