I would love to give this place 5 stars bc our appetizers and entrees were amazing, but then we got the sushi, which did take forever to get, which we understood as there was only 1 sushi chef. 1 roll was decent, the other was just plain awful, we scraped toppings off, asked for dipping sauce, finally we told the waitress we didn't like it. She asked what we'd like her to do, we explained we didn't want to act like the customers at the table adjoining us who were rude and sent it back, but it just wasn't good, the waitress then said yes she ordered the same roll, my wife said what did you just give me her roll?? She laughed and said no yours looks better haha. She then walked away, still not resolving our issue. My wife then had me go get a menu to see what all was supposed to be in her roll bc she couldn't find it. Her tempura was soggy and barely noticeable. Needless to say we didn't eat it, they didn't take it off the check either. She did say she didn't charge us for our Thai tea. Well when we went to give our tip, we gave her a $20 and asked for $10 back (this was still giving her 15+%) she walked to one counter ,then to another, finally she walked to her locker dig out her purse started rummaging through it, then top of her locker, then came to us and handed me a 5, four 1s and .37 and said that's all she could find and walked away. $9.37??? I went to the manager and explained, she quickly fixed the situation. But that was enough to put us off for the evening. My wife was sick for the rest of the night thinking she got someone else's sushi roll. If you want good apps and entrees try it. Don't...
Read moreTook my daughter here for a Sunday night dinner, exploring the local not-chain restaurants in the area. Overall it was a very satisfactory restaurant and we will likely return.
I ordered Pho with shrimp. My daughter ordered sweet and sour chicken and a plate of sushi. She finished almost the whole platter of sushi before her entree arrived. She appeared to enjoy it.
She also specifically complimented the sweet and sour chicken. Her complaint about other places is that they load it up with veggies that she doesn't want. Her plate here was almost entirely chicken with a few pieces of what looked like fruit and ample sauce with a large cup of white rice. After such a large portion of sushi, she boxed up much of it for leftovers. She was pleased.
The Pho came in a large bowl with about a half dozen medium sized shrimp, tails still attached. To this I added a small spoon of hot sauce which was more than enough. The Pho was tasty and the portion size generous - I couldn't finish it all.
Service was attentive without hovering. Drinks were refilled quickly and the check, once requested, was processed immediately. Our server was polite. All pluses.
The minuses are relatively small.
We chose a window table near the door. This seems to have been a bad choice as we had to fend off some small flying insects. If that bothers you then you should choose a table further away from the entrance.
The other is subjective. The tables are covered in paper. This is a cheap and effective way to keep tables clean, but if you prefer to eat on a tablecloth or table surface then this may not be to your liking....
Read moreMy family and I have had Garlic Thai several times and always get the same dish. The first time my wife had the Cashew Tofu it was amazing! So, I wanted to try it. The next time few times we ordered it, it wasn't the same. Good, but the tofu was cooked too long and it didn't have the usual spice to it. This last time though they put pineapples and the sauce was totally different. I called to let them know and the employee left a message for the owner to give me a call. He never called back, so I chose to call back a few days later. The owner and I finally spoke and he asked me, " if I had pictures of my food". I told him, "No". I was shocked he asked. I don't like to feel like I'm being accused of lying about the situation. I also didn't like that the reason he didn't call me back was because this was my second time calling about my food being prepared wrong. I was told that from now on customers need to take pictures and that I should check my order. I should have checked my order, but it's not my sole responsibility to check. The chef or cook should be checking to make sure the order prepared was done correctly. I know everyone isn't checking their food before leaving this establishment because people choose to believe the order is correct. Some people have allergies, so it would benefit Garlic Thai to have the chef or cook to double check the order before giving it to the customer. If I'm paying over $16 for a dish with no drink or anything...yes I should call if I have a complaint. This was the last straw! Definitely will not...
