Balboa Lily’s — Restaurant in Newport Beach

My husband and I visited Lily's today around noon. We ordered the Breakfast Bowl with ham and country potatoes. I asked for my eggs to be soft and moist and lightly scrambled. I specifically mentioned to the Waiter to tell the Chef that I did not want over-cooked, dry, rubbery eggs. My husband ordered two eggs basted with country potatoes and ham. -- The meal was such a disappointment. My eggs were so overcooked I could almost bounce them on the floor. The potatoes were so hard and overcooked with excess salt and seasoning they were inedible. The Waiter returned my eggs and asked the Chef to make me another order of eggs cooked very lightly and very soft. The second ones were cooked just as bad as the first ones. I could not eat them. I could not eat any of my meal except for the toast and strawberry jam. My husband's experience with his breakfast was the same as mine. His eggs were hard-fried instead of basted. The Chef did not know what it meant to baste the eggs. The meal was inedible. We were both so sorry to have had such an unsatisfactory experience at Lily's. Planned a breakfast at a different location but it was after 12pm and they didn’t have breakfast so we walked over to Lily’s. Cute little local place with patio seating and an inside coffee shop. They serve breakfast all day. Large coffee menu with many interesting options. We ordered the Matcha and Rose Orange Lattes. Both came out filled to the rim with a pretty decorated top. They have a good selection of breakfast items. We ordered the veggie omelette with fries and the morning fries. The morning fries are a version of carne asada fries but with egg instead of meat. The fries were not hot enough in either dish. The omelette was a little overcooked as well as the egg on the morning fries. The waitress Estella was super sweet and accommodating. She made the experience enjoyable. She was attentive and made sure we were taken care of - overall a good experience. Good place to people watch too. There is metered parking across the street 2hr limit for $3.40 an hour. Recommend you find street parking so you can walk...

Avoid this place like your life depends on it - because it just might.

First of all, the service here was the worst I've ever seen; once our orders were taken it took forever for our drinks to come (served in dirty glasses, complete with little floating things in the water), then almost an HOUR for the food to come and several dishes were cold. We never saw the waitress again, and when we were done, they never came to collect the payment, so my husband had to go track them down to take our money (and when he did, all the employees were just standing around talking and doing nothing).

Now I've been up all night with food poisoning from this place, so who knows how long the food was just sitting around or if it was even cooked properly, because if the service staff was that bad, I can't imagine what the people preparing the food are like.
