We were visiting from out of town, we are a family of 6 kids and adults. When we first walked in we stood there for over 5mins no welcome from anyone. A few minutes after bartender asked how many when I replied he stated they only had outside seating which I replied OK, (we didn’t mind either way) he right back to helping the other customers at the bar. As we waited over 5mins another party got up to leave which opened up a big enough table for us. I waited and got closer to the bar to ask if we could sit there and no one paid any mind to me. We waited and a waiter asked if we were being helped I said “not really, but could we please sit there?” as I pointed to the open table. He cleared off the table to us and we sat down. It took awhile for the waitress to come to our table(I understand there are other customers but at least acknowledge us (we are paying customers too) she walked half way up to us and said something directly to us but we couldn’t hear over the music. I asked her “what was that?” She then replied she would get us all waters. We told her no to the waters that we would like sodas instead. Instantly I felt like she was giving me a little bit of an attitude after asking her to repeat herself but only towards be the entire dinner. We then ordered our food. I ordered a pastrami burger and I assumed it was a burger with pastrami on top with cheese. (Reading the menu now it was supposed to be a burger piled high with pastrami,Swiss cheese, thousand island, and a pickle. I was served dry flakey bread with pastrami and mustard. I didn’t want to correct the food because we were all very hungry and I didn’t want my family to wait longer to eat so I ended up eating some of it and then sharing food with my kid’s. We didn’t get any refills with our meals. My family did enjoy their meals, I don’t know why this restaurant had it out for me personally I felt this way I was polite and nice when speaking to any employee. I honestly would not choose to come back to this restaurant, unless my family wanted to come back because like I said they did enjoy their food. Not really a good experience for myself when visiting Newport for...
Read moreI’ve never eaten at Malarky’s, so I can only review it for its nightlife.
If you’re looking for a good night out without the aggressive hook-up culture of some of the other Newport bars, this is the place to be. Their prices for drinks are a little steep, but that’s Newport. Malarky’s is basically just a solid choice for a good evening. Nothing particularly special, but it maintains a good level of decent music, decent drinks, and decently interesting people to meet. My only major problem with the place, and the reason I’m giving it 4 stars rather than 5, is that the employees can be a bit apathetic when it comes to the safety of their patrons. I visited some months back and had a girl basically pass out on my lap. The guy she had been talking to was acting in a rather suspicious manner and fled the scene quickly. My friend and I immediately got out of the bar and made sure that she got home. The staff at Malarky’s saw us trying to help her, and definitely had seen her fall as they checked her vitals, but upon determining that she did not need an ambulance, they did not offer much help or ask any questions. I do think that they would have stepped in had the problem been more serious, but there should have been an effort to ensure that she was going to be okay or to help us out.
The other, much more minor complaint, is that other than serving Guinness I don’t see exactly how it’s an Irish bar.
That being said, it’s still a great place to spend a night, probably the best on the Peninsula...
Read moreWe saw the billboard advertising their Prime Rib Tuesday special so we popped in for dinner, excellent choice! The prime rib was delicious, cooked perfectly and a good portion size, (took home a third!). Baked potato was good, onion rings were thick and crunchy, the chili was excellent and nicely presented in cast iron. My father had the fish and chips and they were delicious and also a hearty portion size. Side salad w/ blue cheese dressing were good too. There is a full bar, great friendly fast service, did congress out of the kitchen HOT much like when dining in Ireland! The prices seem very reasonable, we'd definitely return! 💯 Social distancing, and Covid cleaning is up to snuff and this place seems populate with regulars and they've been here for decades. Nice outdoor seating available. Lots of televisions rubbed to sports. This is a step above most pubs in the states and on par with the best in Ireland! 🤩🍻Thank you to Baily for the friendly, fun high caliber service!! 🥰 Tip your servers generously if you can afford to, these really are tough times for the...
