Let me tell you about my culinary adventure at Mama D’s Italian Haven, where pasta dreams come true and your taste buds are treated like royalty. I recently indulged in a plate of rigatoni that was so magnificent, it should have its own fan club.

The centerpiece? Mama D's pink creamy sauce. This sauce is like the Beyoncé of sauces—rich, smooth, and destined for greatness. Each rigatoni tube was generously coated in this magical elixir, making every bite a symphony of flavor.

Garlic played its part perfectly, like a supporting actor who steals every scene. It added just the right amount of kick without making me feel like I had dragon breath. The buffalo mozzarella was a revelation, so creamy and delicious that I almost considered proposing to it. And don’t get me started on the Parmesano Reggiano—it was like a snowstorm of cheesy goodness on my plate.

Now, let’s talk shrimp. These succulent little morsels were cooked to perfection, adding a delightful oceanic twist to my pasta experience. It was like the shrimp had taken a mini vacation in a sea of pink sauce before arriving on my plate, and they brought all their beachy vibes with them.

And then, dear readers, I stumbled upon the Holy Grail of pasta dishes—the secret menu item: the meaty pink sauce. This concoction is so incredible, it must be kept under lock and key. Imagine Mama D’s already fabulous pink sauce, but with an infusion of savory, melt-in-your-mouth meats that take the flavor to a whole new level. It's like the sauce got an upgrade and decided to bring the entire meat department along for the ride. Unbelievable. If you manage to get the inside scoop and order this, consider yourself one of the chosen ones.

This newer Second Outpost in CdM has earned its spot as one of Newport's tried and true family-style italian always hits the spot... and the 2nd Spot and the 3rd Spot. Come with an empty stomach, after a hike, on the day after Yom Kippur. You'll be glad you saved room for this "Tip Top Red Gravy", filled with Garlic and Pecorino.

The Poulet de Vin Marsála was Medallions of Tender Chicken, Pounded Thin enough to melt in your mouth and thick enough to bite into is lightly floured before sauteeing in Marsala wine and rosemary and finished with generous handfuls of Creminis that serve to elevate this admittedly phenomenal take on a classic and is a surprisingly perfect entreé.

The Cacciatore is my wife's favorite, Garlicky + Oniony + Peppery. She definitely Caught a Tore. Sorry, but someone eventually has to catch it right?? Secretly I know she dreams about that rich flavorful sauce and struggles to contain herself from casually mentioning Mama D's for just that reason... shes so adorable, how can I say no? Would it be so terrible if I switched her catch-a-tore with a microwaved Lean Cuisine version and acted surprised when she asks me to taste it because it seems off? Its Happening soon.

The Fettucini Alfredo is also a nice riff on a classic... the eggy noodles are a standout. Lasagna merits a second review all unto itself.

For the main course, I opted for their pizza, which was nothing short of spectacular - a crispy yet chewy crust topped with quality ingredients that clearly showcased their commitment to authentic flavors.

The ambiance deserves special mention. Their outdoor patio creates a lovely, relaxed atmosphere that's perfect for enjoying a meal in Southern California's beautiful weather. Inside, the charming interior offers a cozy alternative with tasteful decor that feels both upscale and welcoming.

What truly elevated our experience was the impeccable service. Host Noah went above and beyond to ensure I felt welcomed and attended to throughout our visit. His recommendations were spot-on, and his attentiveness made us feel like valued guests rather than just customers.
