Islander and I've been to Annie's about a dozen times in the decade I've lived here. I rarely leave restaurant reviews as a local anymore, but Annie's deserves this one as I'm sure they'll want to correct whatever is happening there. Lunch yesterday: not busy, one waitress working who seemed overwhelmed. Didn't recognize her, so I'm guessing new and hope with experience she improves. Asked for tea; was brought barely lukewarm water with a generic tea bag and no sweeteners offered. Ordered a chicken Caesar, partner ordered eggs Florentine Benedict. Basic, easy stuff. Eggs were cold, muffin barely toasted whatsoever and also cold. Cold, hard, inedible barely cooked home fries. The worst we've ever had. My salad was also literally the worst salad I've had in my life, anywhere. I could see it was barely dressed, asked for additional dressing and was met with the waitress' attitude and argument that "it was already on it, but I'll bring more." Looking at the plate, I thought I was seeing hard strips of pita or Naan bread on top - but it was the chicken. So overcooked, dry, disgusting and hard it couldn't be chewed. Lettuce mostly yellow and old green. No cheese at all. Finally, it was comical to realize the croutons were soft, torn up pieces of marbled rye (rye...f'ing rye) bread presumably leftover from breakfast "toast" which was also cold on my partner's plate alongside his cold, gruesome eggs benedict and uncooked potatoes. I spit out the bite of salad I had, waited for the check and paid $34 for the pleasure. Waitress took away our still full + uneaten plates, completely oblivious, as the kitchen must have been when sending out such a...
Read moreWe were staying at a place close by and stopped in both mornings or our trip. I almost didn’t want to go back on the 2nd day and glad we did, food was better on the 2nd try. Server was friendly in the first visit, they were attentive and she told us a lot of the history of Annie and Newport. My croissant could have been toasted and the home fries, I couldn’t eat them. My husband’s omelette was thin and almost fried that I was surprised he said let’s give it another try. Server this time wasnt attentive at all, we had to ask for 2nd cup and he only gave some to my husband didn’t even attempt to check in on us after served. My husband didn’t like the coffee cups, too small and he couldn’t pick them up easily. We laughed off the poor service as he poured some of his coffee into my cup to warm up mine. All in all, good food but hopefully the server from today learns you need to check in on the guests and offer refills to everyone at the table. By the way, their coffee is really good, fresh and was told by friendly sever the Ben’s are local from Pawtucket. Server from day 1 gets 4 stars Sever from day 2 gets 1 star Food day 1 gets 2 stars Food day 2...
Read moreI visited Annie’s this morning 6/25, about 30 minutes after they opened. I was the only customer in the restaurant, which initially felt like a peaceful way to start the day. I ordered fresh-squeezed orange juice and settled in, hoping to enjoy a quiet breakfast while catching up on work emails.
Unfortunately, things quickly went downhill. The peaceful atmosphere was interrupted by the line cook and server having a loud, ongoing conversation behind the counter. After nearly 10 minutes of trying to ignore the noise (and unnecessary chit chat) I asked for my meal to-go because it was too distracting to stay.
When I got to my co-working space in Newport and finally sat down to eat, the food was another letdown. The home fries had an odd, almost chemical-like taste, and the breakfast burrito was bland and unappetizing. I’ve had stomach issues since eating it.
I don’t normally write reviews, positive or negative, but I felt this experience was worth sharing. Between the unprofessional atmosphere and questionable food quality, I unfortunately won’t be...
