There’s two places that really deliver the good stuff here in Newport. I’ve lived here my whole life, and some would call me a “local guide”. These places are Georgie’s beachside grill and the crab shack (aka south beach fish market). If I was lucky enough to get the opportunity to take someone on a date, I’d probably go to Georgie’s, because of the professional atmosphere, wine selection, ocean views with whales spouting in the surf as the sun sets into the abyss and more. Eagles soaring on breeze hunting pelicans or even an occasional sail boat skippered likely by a retired doctor or banker looking to fulfill the adventures of a younger man lost in the pursuit of a white collar profession. We can only pray they get what they deserve for a life of higher taxes and service to this great country. As for the crab shack I’d say they have the best quality fish n chips in town. I’m open for debate; and you can place your thoughts in the comments below. On a hot mid afternoon, after a long day of sweating in the Newport air; it’s nice to drop in and grab some delicious prawns and halibut or lingcod scallops really anything. God bless and don’t forget to stream west coast country on Spotify and Apple Music! The sounds of the Oregon coast and all the fisherman who make it possible for you to eat this fine renewable fresh seafood. Tip Big or see your favorite places go out of business. You won’t regret it. God...
Read moreWe visited South Beach Fish Market with high expectations, drawn in by its glowing reviews and reputation for serving up fresh, fast seafood to hungry crowds. It’s not your typical sit-down restaurant—it’s a bustling seafood market that doubles as a casual eatery, dishing out everything from fish sandwiches and crab cocktails to hot dogs and corn dogs.
When we arrived, the line was long and lively, with patrons queued up to order at the counter. Despite the crowd, the staff kept things moving efficiently. Our order was ready in about 10–15 minutes, and seating was available both indoors and on a spacious outdoor patio.
The food itself was the highlight. We tried the halibut fish and chips and the crab cocktail—both were impressively fresh and flavorful. The menu offers a wide variety of options, and it’s clear they know how to handle seafood.
Service was friendly and quick, but the cleanliness of the space left something to be desired. The picnic tables, especially outside, were in rough shape—sticky, grimy, and not well-maintained. It gave the place a bit of a “dockside fish market” vibe, more reminiscent of a remote island than the Oregon coast.
Overall, South Beach Fish Market is worth experiencing at least once for the quality of the seafood and the quirky, no-frills atmosphere. That said, I’m not sure I’d rush back unless the...

He touched all the fryer baskets, the yellow paper that the food goes on, and the food itself after touching raw halibut. He also touched his towel so when he changed his gloves after answering the phone, he touch the towel again that was hanging out of his pocket. It was really gross. Never saw anyone wash their hands once. If I didn’t notice this would have made my family sick. I have five kids that ordered food and all are little. They didn’t even seem surprised when my husband said something. I didn’t get my tip refunded but I will never come back. Gross.
Went here this afternoon and it was delicious! It was slammed, but the service was really quick. The line was out the door and down the steps. Even with thirty people in front of me in line I waited maybe 20 min to order and then maybe 10-15 min for my food after ordering. Mind you there was probably 40 more people ordering behind me. lol the picnic tables were full of happy people. Beautiful day and great vibes. I highly recommend the halibut fish and chips, onion rings, and my husband got the popcorn shrimp w/chips. Many people had their dogs at picnic tables which was fun. My kids loved it....
