We were on holiday in Washington State and Oregon staying in Holiday Inn Express (HIX) Maryville, WA (3 nights), HIX Newberg OR (4 nights), HIX Newport (3 nights) and HIM Seaside OR (2 nights).
We have stayed in the HIX Newport some years ago and had good memories from that visit; however this time is a very bad experience.
We came back in the evening on the second day and our room was not cleaned. We went to the reception and complained. We were told that they don’t clean the room every day due to the pandemic! They “unfortunately” forgot to tell us that, when we checked in and he promised that the room would be cleaned the next day and we got fresh towels. – From experience then I can say that other HIXs are cleaning the rooms very day and the pandemic is over at them! (They also “forgot” to greet me as Platinum member, but that is not important to me).
The next day the room was again not cleaned! And the same guy at the reception apologized for the missing cleaning and offered us fresh towels (again). He then afterwards called us and said that they could arrange that the sheets are changed. Another guy came up and removed the old top sheets and the blankets and left a pile of sheets. Unfortunately, he did not bring new blankets, so the guy at the reception had to bring new blankets. Annoyed by the many interactions then we at the end then changed the sheets ourselves. And no cleaning of the rooms also mean that the dust pins were not emptied during our stay.
The Manager apologized the next morning, when we checked out and said that she would refund 25000 point due to missing cleanings; however again another broken promise as I am still waiting for the refund of the 25000 points! (of total 120000 points for the stay)
Furthermore, the only toaster in the breakfast room was broken during the whole stay. I can say from experience that other HIXs have more than one toaster and I would presume that it would be possible ordering a new toaster and get it delivered overnight, but I guess there are maybe “supply chain issues”……
It was the worse experience during my 25 years staying at IHG hotels.

Read moreWe took a quick weekend trip to Newport with our 2 kids. I love staying at Holiday Inn's and was excited to see that there was one in Newport. We were greeted by very friendly staff and given the run down of all the rules and what not. We got to our room and we all know that what awaits you behind that door is always a surprise and once we opened our door I was surprised at how nice it was, not that I had any doubts in my mind, but the beds are super comfy, but unless you like soft pillows I recommend bring one of your own and if you like soft towels bring your own as well ha!. It was so convenient to have a fridge and micro wave in the room for left overs or even if we bought something at the store we had the option to re-heat things which is do nice with two little ones in tow.
This particular Holiday Inn express has a little store and it was so nice to have that there for quick little snacks or the craving of ice cream, it is a little spendy, but no more then a convenient store would be and you have the option to pay then or have it charged to your room, I loved that.
There is of course the typical free continental breakfast and you know I have read reviews before about continental breakfast and people always seem to have a negative spin on them, but in my opinion it FREE and I can't complain much about FREE food. Yes the sausage is the prepackage frozen sausage and the bacon is paper thin, but it FREE!!!! we ate their continental breakfast one morning and we and our kids were pleased and got full. I do recommend anyone going to the Pig n' Pancake for one breakfast, we got there and it was packed but the wait was only 15-20min and was worth the wait!!!
We will always stay here when we go to Newport, we loved our...
Read moreMy son and I stayed at the holiday inn over labor day weekend. We were in room 331.||The room itself was clean, the bed was comfortable and clean. It smelled weird and musty though.||The bathroom had some issues. For starters, when I walked in, I realized the door had a big chunk of out of it. It was very light weight.||Then I looked at the latch on the door, and it was missing. ||Another thing I noticed was the toilet was dripping constantly. Not like running, but physically dripping inside the bowl.||Then when I looked up, there was water damage on the celing.||I called down to the front desk to have these things looked at, and when the staff member pulled the toilet cover off, there was black mold all behind the toliet. I'm thinking maybe a leak or something was happening that is causing the mold. |After seeing that, I told him I didn't feel comfortable staying in the room with that much mold, he said he could get me a refund. I asked for another room, and he said they were totally booked up so I wouldn't be able to, he could only give me a refund.||It was late, and we were 2 1/2 hours from home, and had plans the next day in the area, so we had no choice to go somewhere else without paying. I couldn't afford it as the refund would not be immediate. So we had to stay. ||I would like to get a partial refund, as they kept us in the room with visable mold that the hotel was aware of. This room had some issues, and for a Holiday Inn Express, I expected more. We have stayed at many of these locations, and I wasn't impressed by the state of our room.||I didn't get a picture of the mold because I didn't want to be handling it and getting...
